Project-Based Learning (PBL) has been lauded as a robust alternative to traditional, didactic instructional methods. Despite its growing adoption, comprehensive syntheses of effect on student learning remain scarce. This study aims fill this gap by systematically reviewing and meta-analyzing the impact PBL students’ academic performance across various disciplines. Employing PRISMA guidelines, we evaluated 70 research articles published between 2010 2023 that quantitatively measured educational outcomes. Our analysis, facilitated advanced meta-analysis software, revealed consistent, moderate substantial enhancement in under compared conventional teaching. The aggregate mean weighted size (d+) was 0.652, indicating significant positive influence achievement. persisted different sample sizes time frames within period. findings underscore PBL’s superiority fostering success, particularly science subjects. Consequently, article contributes scholarly discourse delineating specific conditions magnitudes effectiveness recommends broader implementation strategies. Based meta-analysis, strongly suggests education institutions integrate PBL, education. Additionally, advocates for continuous, empirical refine optimize methodologies, ensuring their evolving adaptability dynamic landscape pedagogies.

This review aimed provide comprehensive synthesis qualitative and mixed-approach that investigated students’ learning. A meta-ethnography approach was employed identify, evaluate, combine findings 14 peer-reviewed studies. These were selected based extensive search databases such Web Science, ERIC, ScienceDirect. Six themes identified reflect learning: enhancing 21st-century skills, enthusiastic engagement, fostering interdisciplinary integration, time consumption, evoking initial jitter, content insufficiency. Additionally, two gaps identified, with majority conducted among senior high school students in Europe Asia.
