Riverside cities are vulnerable to pluvial flooding due multiple factors, such as landscape fragmentation caused by land-use changes, which weakens the ecosystem service of flood mitigation. This is essential because it reduces impact this climatic event through water infiltration into soil. The metropolitan area Arequipa, Peru, a riverside city, currently fragmented accelerated population growth, has filled river buffer zones and agricultural areas with concrete, resulting in fragile control service. research assesses mitigation Arequipa using InVEST software 3.12.1 map an ecological corridor. results show low runoff urban environments but significant retention non-agricultural vegetation areas. Zero-runoff patches were identified sources, resistance surface least-cost path model created, yielding 57 km corridor connecting 18 sources across 12 Arequipa’s 19 districts. study highlights importance integrating services planning support green infrastructure initiatives, contribute sustainable resilient mitigating enhancing natural defenses.

Throughout history, the role of rivers in urban areas has been vital and complex. Water elements have defined embodied areas' structure, character, growth, economic relations, social environmental dynamics. Today, local authorities focus on restoration revitalization projects as key for sustainable development. These efforts aim to enhance citizens' cultural memory integrate essential environments. The paper argues importance water regeneration projects. It explores possibilities river through a case study Elassonitis River area Elassona, Greece. We identify river's community's life opportunities arising from its restoration. methods used include surveys with community. detail perceptions, needs, expectations regarding Lastly, it highlights benefits integrating into regeneration, including environmental, social, benefits. can influence similar other regions, demonstrating potential become central
