Predictive processes and numerous cognitive, motor, social skills depend heavily on sequence learning. The visuomotor Serial Reaction Time Task (SRTT) can measure this fundamental cognitive process. To comprehend the neural underpinnings of SRTT, non-invasive brain stimulation stands out as one most effective methodologies. Nevertheless, a systematic list considerations for design such interventional studies is currently lacking. address gap, review aimed to investigate whether repetitive transcranial magnetic (rTMS) viable method modulating learning identify factors that mediate its efficacy. We systematically analyzed eligible records (n = 17) attempted modulate performance SRTT with rTMS. purpose analysis was determine how following affected performance: (1) stimulated regions, (2) rTMS protocols, (3) hemisphere, (4) timing stimulation, (5) properties, (6) other methodological features. primary motor cortex (M1) dorsolateral prefrontal (DLPFC) were found be promising targets. Low-frequency protocols over M1 usually weaken performance, but results are less consistent DLPFC. This provides comprehensive discussion about behavioral effects six crucial in designing future Future may preferentially synergistically combine functional neuroimaging adequately link rTMS-induced network findings, which develop unified model

Abstract The serial reaction time task is a widely used in behavioural and cognitive neuroscience to assess human animal learning. Many publications refer this as ‘motor learning task’, but it also perceptual task. We emphasize here that the incorrect use of term learning’ misleads researchers medical doctors by emphasizing motor cortex's exclusive role. It has potential lead misinterpretation neuroscientific, neuroimaging clinical studies. domino effect generate more flawed hypotheses theories.

The ability of the brain to extract patterns from environment and predict future events, known as statistical learning, has been proposed interact in a competitive manner with prefrontal lobe related networks their characteristic cognitive or executive functions. However, it remains unclear whether these functions also show relationship implicit learning across individuals at level latent function components. In order address this currently unknown aspect, we investigated, two independent experiments (N Study1 = 186, N Study2 157), between measured by Alternating Serial Reaction Time task, functions, multiple neuropsychological tests. both studies, modest, but consistent negative correlation most measures was observed. Factor analysis further revealed that factor representing verbal fluency complex working memory seemed drive correlations. Thus, an antagonism might specifically be mediated updating component or/and long-term access.
