Abstract Network approaches to psychopathology have become increasingly common in mental health research, with many theoretical and methodological developments quickly gaining traction. This article illustrates contemporary practices applying network analytical tools, bridging the gap between concepts their empirical applications. We explain how we can use graphs construct networks representing complex associations among observable psychological variables. then discuss key models, including dynamic networks, time‐varying models derived from panel data, intervention analysis, latent moderated models. Interpersonal stress is a major precipitant of suicidal ideation (SI) and suicide attempts (SA), yet the underlying biological mechanisms remain unclear. This study examined dynamic plasma concentrations inflammatory, platelet activation, neurotrophic markers during acute social in 76 depressed women (mean age: 39.7 ± 1.39 years) with without SA history or recent SI. Participants underwent Trier Social Stress Test, biomarkers measured at five time points before, during, after stressor. Covariate-adjusted growth curve models area under analyses were applied. SI was associated elevated overall TNF-α levels (0.82 0.05 vs. 0.61 0.05, p = 0.039). showed cubic trajectories (t228 4.76, < 0.001) MIP-1β (t235 2.12, 0.035), quadratic TSP-1 (t274 -2.42, 0.016), PF-4 -2.25, 0.025), NAP-2 -2.43, which absent participants Cubic patters inflammatory responses also observed history, but not attempters (TNF-α: t228 3.15, 0.030; MIP-1β: t235 2.74, 0.007). Meanwhile, SA, those without, linear BDNF increase (t275 2.39, 0.017; t275 2.28, 0.024, respectively). These findings suggest that may be impaired immune-inflammatory, platelet, systems to interpersonal stress, reflecting systemic rigidity.

Suicidal ideation fluctuates over time, as does its related risk factors. Little is known about the difference or similarities of temporal patterns. The current exploratory secondary analysis examines which symptoms have similar time dynamics using a mathematical algorithm called dynamic warping (DTW). Ecological momentary assessment data was used 11 depressed psychiatric outpatients with suicidal who answered three daytime surveys at semi-random sampling points for period to six months. Patients 45 assessments more were included. Results revealed significant inter-individual variability in symptom and clustering, certain often clustering due patterns, notably feeling sad, hopelessness, stuck, worrying. directed network analyses shed light on order, highlighting entrapment worrying strongly suicide ideation. Still, all patients also showed unique networks. While some changes directly preceded change ideation, reverse ordering found. Relatedly, within patients, perceived burdensomeness played pivotal role, whereas others it unconnected other symptoms. study underscores individualized nature challenges linear models progression, advocating personalized treatment strategies.

Suicidal ideation represents one of the most complex mental phenomena and poorly understood. This paper explores psychic mechanisms suicide through a novel approach that combines computational methods with Lacanian psychoanalysis, specifically utilizing free energy principle (FEP). We begin by outlining foundational concepts FEP psychoanalysis. Subsequently, we review contemporary theories thought including Interpersonal theory, Escape other psychoanalytic perspectives. identify four components suicidal ideation: symbolic suicide, imaginary desire for death, passage act. A recurrent generative model is proposed simulates impulses based on internal states external events. discuss enhancing practical applicability validating this theoretical using real-world data like Social Readjustment Rating Scale Personality Inventory DSM-5 (PID-5). The predictive capability our evaluating an open-source dataset PID-5 Columbia Suicide Severity Scale, achieving AUC 0.76, despite absence life event data. demonstrates potential psychometrics as paradigm integrating psychometric measurement modeling psychological phenomena. Further work should validate incorporating factors to refine its explanatory power. With continued development, could provide new tools better assessing, understanding, treating ideation.

Day-to-Day Dynamic Coupling of Affective Symptomatology in Chinese Mother-Adolescent and Father-Adolescent Dyads DOI Open Access

Recent multi-informant family studies separating within- and between-family variances suggest that, on macro timescales (e.g., yearly), familial symptomatology clustering mainly occurs at the level—e.g., more depressed parents have adolescents, but becoming than usual typically do not predict adolescents next occasion within same family. It remains unclear, however, whether reciprocity operates a micro timescale, with fathers rarely considered. Here, we employed daily diary design sampled 113 father-adolescent dyads 132 mother-adolescent dyads. At within-dyad level, observed mother-related effects including adolescent-driven effect in depressive symptom coupling, mother-driven negative affect reciprocal interplays of anxiety symptoms (mothers anxious one day predicted day, vice versa)—but no father-related effects. Using novel design, increased theory’s temporal resolution interpretation clarity appropriate level.
