Abstract Due to the ubiquitous nature of digital media in youths’ lives, concerns have been raised that might negatively affect attention. For children and adolescents, these revolve around two questions. First, what are momentary, short-term effects on attention processing (e.g., while studying or doing homework)? Second, sustained, long-term frequent distractions multitasking ability focus sustain attention? This chapter provides an overview current state literature issues highlights most important research gaps directions for future research. In sum, studies point toward attentional performance decrements when using media. These be particularly strong one perceives more than primary task, distraction draws same sensory modalities is forcefully interrupted by (i.e., incoming messages). Whether momentary distractions, continuous generally, sustained negative abilities remains largely unknown.
