Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common and slow-progressing neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor non-motor symptoms, including gastrointestinal (GI) dysfunctions. Over the last years, microbiota-gut-brain (MGB) axis emerging as bacterial-neuro-immune ascending pathway that contributes to progression of PD. Indeed, PD patients are changes in gut microbiota composition, alterations intestinal epithelial barrier (IEB) enteric neurogenic/inflammatory responses that, besides determining disturbances, contribute brain pathology.
