Abstract Background: Organic polymers are used widely in daily necessities, foods, and medicines, but recent reports show that cross-linked polyacrylic acid (CL-PAA), an organic polymer, induces severe lung disease. Whereas most previous toxicity studies of CL-PAA were intratracheal instillation studies, we conducted inhalation exposure to corroborate those findings. Methods: We 5-day (subacute) 13-week (subchronic) using CL-PAA. In the subacute study, male F344 rats inhaled 0.2 mg/m3, 2.0 or 20 mg/m3of for 6 hours/day 5 days. Rats sacrificed 3 days 1 month after exposure. subchronic mg/m3or mg/ m3of days/week 13 weeks. from months also investigated mechanism pulmonary disorders by conducting additional (CL-PAA mg/m3) which antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) (200 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally. The study on day exposure. Results: Subacute resulted concentration-dependent increases neutrophil influx, total protein, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), cytokine-induced chemoattractant (CINC) bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) tissue. Histopathological findings tissue showed infiltration a manner. Subchronic persistent protein BALF HO-1 fibrosis. NAC administration decreased number neutrophils, LDH, CINC BALF, improved infiltration. Conclusion: Inhalation induced inflammation rats' lungs. weeks fibrosis considered no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) chronic mg/m3. Furthermore, oxidative stress associated with CL-PAA-induced inflammation, attenuated inflammation.

Odontotermes formosanus (Shiraki) is a highly damaging agroforestry pest. Serratia marcescens broad-spectrum insecticidal pathogen and lethal to O. formosanus. However, little known about the mechanism between them. To improve biological control of pests, more in-depth analysis interactions pests pathogens essential. We used RNA-seq, enzyme activity assays real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (qPCR) explore defense responses against SM1. RNA-seq results showed that 1,160, 2,531 4,536 genes were differentially expressed at 3, 6 12 h after SM1 infection, Kyoto Encyclopedia Genes Genomes (KEGG) indicated immune response energy metabolism involved in Reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels ROS synthesis significantly elevated, antioxidant system induced infection. In addition, cellular affected, Toll, deficiency (Imd), Janus kinase/signal transducer activator transcription (JAK/STAT), c-Jun N-terminal Kinase (JNK) melanization pathways activated. vitro, Oftermicin, an antimicrobial peptide, had inhibitory effect on Furthermore, expression activities phosphofructokinase (PFK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), succinate (SDH) isocitrate (IDH) glycolysis tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycles increased. Our clearly demonstrated defended by activating system, innate immunity metabolism. This study would provide useful information for development controls
