This study investigates the biodegradability and water absorption properties of Macadamia nutshell powder poly(lactic acid) (PLA) biocomposites using a Design Experiments (DOE) approach. The influences processing methods, powder’s weight content, condition are studied. A test is performed in accordance with American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) D5338-11 by burying specimens wet garden soil at controlled temperature 50 °C 100% humidity. obtained counter-rotating exhibit varying loss patterns an increasing while co-rotating demonstrate consistent behaviour. highlights complex nature PLA biodegradation, which affected diverse factors such as conditions environments, thereby contributing to deeper understanding sustainability implications. carried out ASTM D570-98. It shown that characteristics predominantly determined hydrophilic nutshells, increased content leading higher absorption. Pure PLA, due its hydrophobic nature, exhibits minimal By unravelling complexities biodegradation biocomposites, this not only advances materials’ behaviour but also underscores potential implications utilizing natural resources composite materials. research contributes valuable insights broader discourse on environmentally friendly materials their role promoting sustainable practices.
