Urbanization plays an important role in biodiversity loss across the globe due to natural habitat form of landscape conversion and fragmentation on which species depend. To study bird diversity peri-urban landscape, we surveyed four habitats—residential areas, cropland, water bodies, sal forest; three seasons—monsoon, winter, summer Baripada, Odisha, India. We from February 2018 January 2019 using point counts set along line transects; 8 transects were established with a replication 18 each. During survey, 6963 individuals 117 belonged 48 families 98 genera area, whereas cropland showed rich avian diversity. Based non-parametric multidimensional scale (NMDS) one-way ANOVA, richness abundance differed significantly among habitats. Cropland higher than other habitats; however, bodies more others. The similarity assemblage was greater between residential areas forest based indices. Among seasons, observed highest winter monsoon summer. In conclusion, our reported that agricultural degraded landscapes like play roles conserving landscapes. Our findings highlighted identified problems affect local (e.g., birds) landscape. It can assist government urban planning management without affecting biodiversity, including birds.

Abstract As land-use cover types affect wintering birds’ strategies, studying their habitat suitability for species conservation is relevant. Predictive spatial models are considered excellent tools planning and improving our understanding of distribution. Here we build to predict the distribution raptor that overwinter in SE Spain. We modelled based on presence-only data obtained between 2017 2019 analysed preferences elevation variables. Our results show altitude distance coastline most important environmental factors species’ suitability. Habitat type-related other predictors, raptors subject this study prefer lowlands areas close overwintering by selecting open habitats, which include wetlands irrigated rainfed crops. This highlights importance heterogeneity generated herbaceous crops within a low-altitude range as optimal environment raptors. Such information should be human-altered landscapes.

Beech leaf disease (BLD) is an emerging forest pathogen primarily affecting American beech (Fagus grandifolia, Ehrh.) in North America and has been attributed to tree mortality of sapling sized trees within five seven years infection. Symptoms typically occur regenerating thickets sprouting from roots killed by bark disease. Scientists first observed BLD Ohio 2012 currently spread 15 states the USA one Canadian province. The nematode Litylenchus crenatae subsp. mccannii (Lcm) highly associated with symptoms, interveinal chlorosis defoliation leaves, recognized as major causal agent (Carta et al. 2020). Methods dispersal are still being examined. Animal vectors could be responsible for Lcm thus BLD. This was survey investigating birds possible through endozoochory ectozoochory. From 2021 2023 we collected 219 fecal, feather, ectoparasite samples 156 infected areas Pennsylvania. We kept cages, fed them nematodes fecal matter determine if observe via endozoochory. feather used PCR microscopy presence Lcm. Results confirmed 21 six avian species: tufted titmouse [Baeolophus bicolor], black-capped chickadee [Poecile atricapillus], white-breasted nuthatch [Sitta carolinensis], dark-eyed junco [Junco hyemalis], goldfinch [Spinus tristis], downy woodpecker [Dryobates pubescens]. detected DNA both suggesting act study successfully existing novel methodologies detect biological samples. During their journey, migratory birds need stopover sites where they can replenish energy stores. Mosaic forests of agricultural areas, often planted with non-native trees, provide opportunities for to do this. In the present work, I sought answer question importance these habitats birds. For this reason studied ecology 15 species long- and short-distance passerines. calculated minimum duration extent fat accumulation per by dividing into different groups habitat use migration distance. three species, also estimated possible flight ranges based on accumulated fat, body mass wing length. My results show that oleaster forest has a role in habits studied. The typically did not changed significantly during time spent area. Forest farmland longest Despite possibly high rate intra- inter-specific competition, area sufficient food throughout whole period. Short-distance migrants stored less than long-distance migrants, probably due strategies. Flight distances varied according species. From conservation biology point view, study highlighted bird migration.
