Abstract Background The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic caused significant morbidity and mortality in Africa, addition to other socio-economic consequences. Across the continent, Schools of Public Health (SPHs) played several roles supporting national, regional, global response pandemic. Following a published grey literature search, this paper reviews analyses contribution SPHs Africa during COVID-19 Contribution SPH faculty most countries contributed their expertise through task forces advisory committees where they guided supported decision-making. Faculty also identification, review, synthesis rapidly evolving local evidence, adapting it context guide policy decisions. Through research, better understanding epidemiology, interventions, as well prevention control measures. engaged training field epidemiologists, frontline health workers, district teams. staff, students epidemiology trainees activities including surveillance, contact tracing, managing quarantine facilities points entry. public education awareness-raising initiatives share information dispel misinformation. In partnership with stakeholders, developed important innovations technologies. Conclusion are critical pillar for prevention, preparedness, response, that support systems functions. To further enhance capacity, efforts improve coordination SPHs, strengthen collaboration among schools, harmonize curricula, capacity advanced research needed. There is need bridge inequities resources exist across regions countries.
