The prevalence of myopia in China has increased significantly recent years, and the age onset become younger. Previous studies have indicated that various environmental factors can influence development school myopia. However, impacts on remains to be investigated. Discoveries this field may contribute better urban planning. This study involved 7,610 students (aged 6–12 4084 boys 3526 girls) from six primary schools Wuhan, China. We evaluated associations between environment by analyzing geographical distribution myopic children. utilized spatial statistical analysis model. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) risk coefficient for a 5,000-m radius around target was 0.379 (p = 0.008), while NDVI 100-m 0.241 0.047). sports area 0.234 0.016). found specific buffers were associated with schools, which worth further research guide future initiatives an perspective.

Myopia is one of the dominant causes visual impairment in world. Pathological myopia could even lead to other serious eye diseases. Researchers have reached a consensus that be caused by both environmental and genetic risk factors. Exploring pathological mechanism can provide scientific basis for developing measures delay progression or treat it. Recent advances highlight scleral hypoxia an important factor promoting myopia. In this review, we summarized role pathology also provided interventions target directly indirectly. We hope review will aid development novel therapeutic strategies drugs

The term inherited retinal dystrophies (IRDs) refers to a diverse range of conditions characterized by dysfunction, and mostly deterioration, leading gradual decay the visual function eventually total vision loss. IRDs have global impact on about 1 in every 3000 4000 individuals. However, prevalence statistics might differ significantly depending exact type dystrophy demographic being examined. cellular pathophysiology genetic foundation been extensively studied, however, knowledge regarding associated refractive errors remain limited. This review aims clarify molecular processes that underlie IRDs. We did thorough search current literature (Pubmed, accession Feb 2024), selecting works describing phenotypic differences among genes-related IRDs, particularly relation errors. First, we summarize wide their causes, genes biological pathways connected etiology disease. then explore complex relationship between including how impairment vision-related mechanisms retina can affect ocular biometry optical characteristics. New data involvement aberrant signaling pathways, photoreceptor degeneration, dysfunctional pigment epithelium (RPE) development also discuss therapeutic implications defects individuals with IRD, possible approaches treating impairments. In addition, address value using cutting-edge imaging methods animal models examine linked suggest future lines inquiry for identifying new targets treatment. summary, this study presents an integrated understanding underlying It illuminates intricacies phenotypes these offers tool isolated errors, besides IRD-related forms.

The cGAS-STING signaling pathway plays a critical role in the immune defense against DNA viruses and autoimmunity, coordinating cascade of events that enhance cytokine production, particularly type I interferons. This review summarizes recent advancements understanding pathway's impact on various ocular diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, uveitis. Activation this by cytoplasmic from either damaged retinal cells or external pathogens induces inflammatory responses may accelerate disease progression. Moreover, paper explores new therapeutic approaches target pathway, offering insights into how modulation could reduce inflammation improve clinical outcomes. emerging research area suggests potential for innovative treatments degenerative conditions.

Published: April 28, 2025

To investigate the effect of capsular tension ring (CTR) implantation on postoperative rotational stability and visual performance a plate-haptic multifocal toric intraocular lens in highly non-highly myopic eyes. Consecutive cataract patients intended for phacoemulsification IOL (AT LISA 909 M) were enrolled randomized to receive either co-implantation CTR or not. Axial length (AL) ≥ 26 mm was defined as (HM) At 3 months postoperatively, rotation degree, residual astigmatism, acuity, higher-order aberrations, modulation transfer function, dysfunctional index (DLI), quality vision (QVI) assessed. This prospective cohort study included 44 eyes with implanted 43 without. In HM eyes, group showed significantly smaller degree less astigmatism compared non-CTR group, however, no such differences found non-HM (both p > 0.05). Furthermore, despite difference exhibited lower spherical aberrations higher DLI QVI (all < 0.05), although observed Multivariate analysis identified longer AL, larger white-to-white, non-use independent risk factors greater rotation. The improves hence subsequently enhancing quality.

This investigation aimed to elucidate the causal role of inflammatory cytokines in risk developing refractive errors. Genetic variants previously associated with served as instrumental variables genome-wide association studies (GWASs) European ancestry. Bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were conducted using summary data from GWAS meta-analyses. Rigorous sensitivity performed validate reliability MR results. We found that, for every unit increase interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (IL1RA) and 2 (IL2), there was a corresponding decrease prevalence myopic errors by 0.235 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.050-0.419 fixed effects; 95% CI, 0.125-0.345 random effects) 0.132 0.032-0.231 0.044-0.220 effects), respectively. No substantial associations observed IL1α, IL1β, IL12p70, or monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP1) Conversely, reverse failed indicate influence on IL1RA IL2. The present study offers evidence link between errors, which could have significant implications early detection, surveillance, management Our underscores importance IL2 prevention suggesting feasibility strategies identification, continuous deployment focused therapeutic approaches.
