Schistosomiasis, caused by Schistosoma spp. trematodes, NTD global medical veterinary importance, over 220 million people untold millions livestock currently infected. Its burden remains extremely high in certain regions, particularly within sub-Saharan Africa, despite two decades mass preventive chemotherapy (mass drug administration), predominantly school-aged children. In contrast Asia, any zoonotic component schistosomiasis transmission its implications for disease has, until recently, been largely ignored. Here, we review recent epidemiological, clinical, molecular, modelling work across both Asia Africa. To achieve 2030 WHO roadmap targets, truly multi-disciplinary perspective must be implemented. Schistosomiasis is one of the leading neglected tropical diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. Recorded case numbers this chronic and debilitating helminth disease indicate Nigeria to be most endemic country within region. National control efforts have focused intensively on restricting human contact with freshwater sources intermediate host snails. However, limited attention has been paid role livestock as reservoir hosts prevalence transmission schistosomes humans via farmed animals. The West African nations Mali, Senegal, neighbouring Niger, Benin, Cameroon all reported hybridization closely related species Schistosoma haematobium, which infects humans, S. bovis, cattle. As these countries share Niger Benue rivers, their tributaries, there a distinct possibility aquatic snails infected hybrid migrating become established Nigerian river system. Here, we report current state research that aims elucidate key aspects zoonotic schistosomiasis epidemiology. Factors promoting are highlighted, how available measures can optimized address emergence schistosome hybrids discussed.

The case histories of 8 dogs with spinal pain and neurologic deficits associated vertebral plasma cell tumor are reviewed. Four had solitary plasmacytoma, 3 multiple myeloma, 1 dog 2 lesions no evidence disseminated disease. were treated: myeloma received chemotherapy only survived 17 26 months, respectively. Two plasmacytomas the spine radiotherapy: 1st 4 months was euthanized after developing radiation myelopathy; 2nd 65 before myeloma. diagnosis plasmacytoma versus is discussed.

Hookworm disease is a major global public health concern, annually affecting 500–700 million of the world's poorest people. The World Health Organization targeting elimination hookworm as problem by 2030 using strategy mass drug administration (MDA) to at-risk human populations. However, in Southeast Asia and Pacific zoonotic species, Ancylostoma ceylanicum , endemic dogs commonly infects This presents potential impediment effectiveness MDA that targets only humans. Here, we develop novel multi-host (dog human) transmission model A. compare human-only “One Health” (human plus dog) strategies under range eco-epidemiological assumptions. We show One interventions—targeting both humans—could suppress prevalence humans ≤ 1% end 2030, even with modest coverage (25–50%) animal reservoir. With increasing coverage, interventions may interrupt transmission. discuss key unresolved questions on eco-epidemiology challenges delivering reservoirs, growing importance health.

Summary Necrotising fasciitis is an uncommon and potentially devastating disease which has been infrequently reported in animals. This brief communication describes unusual presentation of necrotising two immature Bull Terriers. Both animals were admitted with a history minimal trauma yet rapidly progressive, localising, disproportionate pain. Streptococcus canis was cultured from sub-periosteal fluid-filled pockets surrounding the femur both cases.

The effects of chylomicron remnants on the activity basally produced nitric oxide (NO) from porcine coronary artery rings and aortic endothelial cells were studied by investigating chylomicron-remnant-like particles (CMR-LPs) containing apolipoprotein E vessel tone arteries cGMP release cells. CMR-LPs oxidized incubation with CuSO4 (10 μM) for 18 h at 37 °C. Nω-nitro-L-arginine (L-NOARG) (oxCMR-LPs), but not native CMR-LPs, increased static (increase in as a percentage induced depolarizing Krebs–;Henseleit solution: L-NOARG, 14.24±2.09; oxCMR-LPs, 4.98±0.88; 0.47±0.21). endothelium removal oxCMR-LPs also all significantly maximum relaxation vessels to S-nitroso-N-acetyl-DL-penicillamine. In addition, reduced amounts released into culture medium 116±12.0 84.2±11.6 fmol/μg cellular protein, mimicking L-NOARG. These results indicate that inhibit activity, production or NO unstimulated mimicked addition L-NOARG these experimental systems, suggesting lipoproteins interfering L-arginine/NO pathway. This study provides further evidence support role development atherosclerosis.
