ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility blending passion fruit peel extract (PFPE) with polydopamine (PDA) solution and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) prepare properties PFPE/PDA/HPMC composite films for their application in vegetable packaging. PFPE extracted by ultrasonic‐assisted extraction method, which is simple, easy operate has high efficiency, dopamine were subjected PFPE/PDA preparation, turn led preparation HPMC, at different concentrations (0%, 5%, 10%, 15% 20%), 10% PDA/HPMC PFPE/HPMC prepared PDA solutions, respectively. interactions between components analysed infrared spectroscopy X‐ray diffractometer, colour, mechanical properties, barrier antioxidant activity determined. results showed that addition had a positive effect on performance films. tensile strength 8.21 MPa, elongation break 85.02% water vapour transmission 2.62 × 10 −14 g·mm/(cm 2 ·h·Pa) when content 20% compared HPMC films; DPPH radical scavenging rate hydroxyl increased increase concentration, film additive 28.71% 34.77%, much higher than film. simulated bananas stored room temperature together 25°C tested every day, it found without packaging began show browning third while still did not obvious fifth so could effectively delay prolong shelf life. In summary, improves use value waste provides new effective fresh bananas, can also provide way development degradable from plant extracts.
