The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is caused by a positive-stranded RNA virus called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), belonging to the Coronaviridae family. This originated in Wuhan City, China, and became cause of multiwave pandemic that has killed 3.46 million people worldwide as May 22, 2021. havoc intensified with emergence SARS-CoV-2 variants (B.1.1.7; Alpha, B.1.351; Beta, P.1; Gamma, B.1.617; Delta, B.1.617.2; Delta-plus, B.1.525; Eta, B.1.429; Epsilon etc.) due mutations generated during replication. Objective: To investigate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on multiple lifestyle changes among adults in United States (USA). Methods: We conducted a survey, Health, Ethnicity, and Pandemic (HEAP) Study, October 2020 USA adults. Participants were selected from using 48 sampling strata, including age, race, ethnicity, education, gender, asked to report five behaviors (i.e., exercise time, screen fast-food meal consumption, alcohol drinking, cigarette smoking) before during pandemic. The associations sociodemographic factors with each change estimated weighted multivariable logistic regression models. Results: All 2709 HEAP participants included this study. Compared pre-pandemic, time spent decreased (32.06 vs. 38.65 min/day; p < 0.001) increased (6.79 5.06 h/day; percentage individuals who reported consuming meals ≥3 times/week 37.7% 33.3% heavy drinkers (≥5 times/week) 20.9% 25.7% Among smokers, smoking (≥11 cigarettes/day) 5.8% 7.9% also identified subgroups more vulnerable adverse influences pandemic, racial/ethnic minority groups young Conclusions: had negative impacts Americans. Mitigating such requires effective interventions, particularly for some subgroups.

Within less than year after COVID-19 was declared pandemic, vaccines had received emergency approvals vaccination campaigns were initiated. We discuss several factors that led to unprecedented, accelerated development approval of includes optimization processes by regulatory authorities, redesign sequential processes, learnings from previous pandemics, prior novel vaccine platforms.Despite unanticipated complex challenges presented real-time in context evolving subsequent ever-changing landscape public health measures recommendations, important milestones reached within extraordinarily short periods and, following roll-out billions worldwide, approved have proven be tolerated effective. Whilst this is an exceptional feat example what can achieved with collaboration innovation, there are lessons still learned, including need further harmonization between modes react pandemic's ever-evolving challenges, ensuring equitable access low-income countries.
