Abstract Biological pathways, including individual gut microbiome are potential barriers for maternal nutritional supplementation to improvement in infant growth. We evaluated the impact of balanced energy-protein (BEP) during pregnancy and first six months lactation on composition functionality mothers their infants rural Burkina Faso. Our findings reveal that BEP led a significant increase diversity pregnancy. In second trimester, there was notable decrease abundance an Oscillospiraceae species, while postpartum, Bacteroides fragilis increased. identified concerted enriched or depleted microbial pathways associated with supplementation, phosphotransferase system, critical mechanism bacterial carbohydrates uptake, which exhibited enrichment born BEP-supplemented mothers. Despite these observations, intricate biological connections other omics necessitate further analysis fully elucidate underlying comprehensive pathways.

A strong correlation between the occurrence of various pathological conditions and intestinal dysbiosis is supported by a range evidence. Vice versa, many pathologies have been shown, in turn, to be responsible for alterations gut microbiota, condition that can worsen illness outcomes response therapies. For these reasons, great efforts made, studies are still ongoing, elucidate mechanisms underlying microbiota search pharmacologic or other strategies effectively restore microbiota. In this narrative review, we examined most significant literature on role some milk bioactive compounds, such as oligosaccharides whey proteins, modulating composition action, with aim investigating impact changes mediated molecules human health, their potential use therapeutics treat adjuvate treatment associated pathologies.

Breastmilk is a complex biological fluid containing over thousand bioactive proteins, lipids, cells and small molecules that provide nutrition immunological protection for infants children. The composition of breastmilk unique to each individual can also vary within individuals according breastfeeding duration, maternal health, time day, other factors. As such, the be considered “fingerprint” could interrogated identify biomarkers breast health disease. However, accurate quantification components in remains significant challenge. Approaches such as immunoassays mass spectrometry have been largely applied study blood or fluids require validation optimisation before these techniques used accurately quantify compounds breastmilk. Development protocols specific should carried out with high precision, confidence, sensitivity. This review explores challenges opportunities associated different components.

Osteopontin, which is a highly phosphorylated and glycosylated acidic secreted protein encoded by the phosphoprotein 1 (Spp1) gene, plays crucial role in immune regulation, inflammatory responses, cell adhesion. However, its impact on intestinal gene expression gut microbiota remains underexplored. In this study, we developed an Spp1 conditional knockout mouse model to investigate alterations transcriptome microbiome, with particular emphasis changes predicted metabolic pathways. Our findings demonstrated that significantly modified of genes involved regulation lipid metabolism. Moreover, metagenomic analysis revealed marked shifts microbial diversity pathways associated digestion, absorption, These results suggest instrumental maintaining equilibrium regulating host metabolism responses. This study offers new insights into host-microbiota interactions potential foundations for developing related therapeutic strategies.
