Hip fractures remain a substantial health concern, particularly among elderly individuals with osteoporosis, leading to high global mortality rates. This study aimed analyze the association between body mass index (BMI) and postoperative in patients who underwent surgery for hip fractures. A total of 680 treated at single institution January 2018 December 2022 were included. Factors such as age, BMI, sex, Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), preoperative hemoglobin levels, American Society Anesthesiologists score, anesthesia method, duration surgery, time from injury assessed. Underweight status, male higher CCI, general significantly associated 1-year in-hospital mortality. Notably, underweight exhibited risk than normal-weight individuals, female had lower underscores importance considering along other demographic clinical factors, predicting fractures, aiding development tailored management strategies improve outcomes reduce complications this vulnerable patient population.

Hip fractures in the elderly are complicated by preoperative deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The objective of this study is to determine usefulness blood-based biomarkers, particularly D-dimer-albumin ratio (DAR), predicting DVT.A retrospective observational was carried out on 1149 patients from a single hospital, and subsequently validated an additional 626 separate hospital. aim evaluate prognostic predictive value 10 with specific emphasis DAR, both cohorts. primary measure interest occurrence DVT.The D-dimer albumin demonstrated superior capability for DVT older hip compared other biomarkers (AUC = 0.677). Using optimal cutoff point 0.24, high DAR significantly associated (OR 3.45, 95% CI 2.00-5.95). Notably, all definitions detailed above were successfully external, independent cohort.DAR may be valuable biomarker fractures.

Inflammation may play a role in the mechanism of postoperative delirium (POD), severe complication among older patients. The purpose this study was to investigate risk factors POD patients with hip fracture, especially inflammation marker– neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR). This retrospective investigation utilized data from Seventh Medical Center People's Liberation Army. 1,242 Eligible fracture (829 females), median age 81 years, mean neutrophil-lymphocyte (NLR) 5.28, were enrolled. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve performed identify optimal cut point NLR for POD. relationship between and occurrence, duration analyzed by multivariable analysis. ROC showed that ≥ 7.6. Multivariate logistic regression analysis 7.6 (odds [OR] 2.75, [95% confidence interval [CI] 1.51 5.02], p = 0.001), stroke (OR 1.05, CI 1.02 1.09], 0.005), complications, general anesthesia, long length stay POD, largest effect (β 0.59, 0.209 0.886], 0.038), 0.054, 0.009 0.099], 0.019), previous 0.908, 0.085 1.731], 0.031), heart failure 1.679, 0.448 2.910], 0.008) suggested duration. demonstrates an association geriatric patients, contribute new evidence support as potential marker prediction
