Background: ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are expressed in the vascular walls of brain capillaries and remove toxic chemicals from brain. The expression ABC peripheral organs is transcriptionally regulated by clock genes exhibits 24 h periodic fluctuations. In addition, gene outputs diminish with aging. this study, we evaluated whether blood–brain barrier (BBB) young mice had a cycle, BBB decreased age. Methods: Brain microvascular (BMV) fractions cerebral cortex male C57BL/6J were prepared using dextran. BMV (12 weeks old) every four hours to evaluate rhythmicity. both aged (85 when protein peaked (Zeitgeber Time 5). Protein mRNA measured. Results: mice, P-glycoprotein, breast cancer resistance protein, multidrug 4 showed time-dependent variations peak light phase 5); no variation. these was lower than that although did not differ between mice. Conclusions: transporter levels endothelial cells aging; however, change, which suggests changes result diminished output. Further studies needed elucidate mechanisms decreases
