The processes involved in encoding and decoding signals the human brain are a continually studied topic, as neuronal information flow involves complex nonlinear dynamics. This study examines awake intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG) data from normal regions to explore how biological sex influences these iEEG were analyzed using permutation entropy statistical complexity time domain power spectrum calculations frequency domain. Bandt Pompe method was used assess series causality by associating probability distributions based on ordinal patterns with signals. Due invasive nature of acquisition, encountered limitations such small sample sizes potential sources error. Nevertheless, high spatial resolution allows detailed analysis comparison specific regions. results reveal differences between sexes regions, observed through spectrum, entropy, analyses. Significant found left supramarginal gyrus, posterior cingulate, supplementary motor cortex, middle temporal right superior gyrus. emphasizes importance considering variable dynamics research, which is essential for improving diagnosis treatment neurological psychiatric disorders.

In several brain disorders, the hyperpolarizing/inhibitory effects of GABA signaling through Cl-permeable GABAA receptors are compromised, leading to an imbalance between neuronal excitation and inhibition. For example, Ts65Dn mouse model Down syndrome (DS) exhibits increased expression Cl- importer NKCC1, depolarizing gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) in mature hippocampus cortex. Inhibiting NKCC1 with Food Drug Administration (FDA)-approved diuretic bumetanide rescues inhibitory GABAergic transmission, synaptic plasticity, cognitive functions adult mice. Given that DS individuals mice show sleep disturbances, considering key role transmission sleep, we investigated whether upregulation contributes abnormalities Chronic oral administration ameliorated spectral profile architecture, electroencephalogram (EEG) entropy/complexity, accompanied by a lower hyperactivity trisomic These results offer potential avenue for addressing common disturbances DS.
