Introduction Cognitive symptoms are reported in the vast majority of individuals with long-COVID and there is growing support to suggest neurovascular mechanisms may play a role. Older adults at increased risk for developing complications associated COVID-19, including heightened cognitive decline. Cerebrovascular Reactivity (CVR), marker health, has been linked age related decline role long-COVID, however, this not yet explored. Methods The present study examined group differences CVR 31 older compared cognitively unimpaired without symptoms. Follow up analyses were conducted examine how was both subjective neuropsychological (NP) test performance. A subject-specific approach, Distribution-Corrected Z-scores (DisCo-Z), used. Results Analyses revealed demonstrated significantly greater incidence extreme clusters within brain (>100 voxels) functional networks thought drive attention executive function. Extreme positive positively number negatively correlated NP Discussion These findings among first provide link between functioning changes relevant aging mechanistic studies long-COVID.

Purpose of review Since its emergence in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has created a global surge survivors experiencing neurologic effects from SARS-CoV-2 infection. This aims to provide an updated synthesis acute and chronic neurological manifestations COVID-19, outline current therapeutic strategies for these conditions. Recent findings Epidemiological studies have shown that patients with symptoms during infection tend poorer hospital functional outcomes. While risk adverse including cognitive dysfunction, headache, autonomic fatigue are thought be greatest following original strain alpha variant, they remain prevalent after subsequent less virulent strains as well. Some recent work also found link between structural brain changes. However, ongoing trials show promising results pharmacologic nonpharmacologic treatments targeting postacute sequelae COVID-19. Summary Lingering still pose considerable individual, healthcare system, socioeconomic repercussions. Both preventive multimodal treatment approaches necessary address Further research is required assess lasting impacts on nervous particularly potential contribution development neurodegenerative diseases.

This study aimed to investigate the activation of inflammation process, triggered as an immune response combat invasion by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). SARS-CoV-2 is a highly transmissible and pathogenic that emerged in late 2019 has caused pandemic disease, named 'coronavirus disease 2019' (COVID-19). Several mechanisms contribute reduction serotonin levels, such impaired absorption dietary tryptophan, hindered transport via platelets, increased activity enzyme responsible for breaking down serotonin. Individuals seeking treatment long COVID-19 had lower levels their blood than those who fully recovered from infection. Furthermore, patients with also reduced tryptophan levels. The potential benefits supplementation or use selective reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) improve cognitive impairments depressive anxiety disorders long-term patients. findings support response's pivotal role modulating further highlight intricate connection between system neurotransmitter regulation.

Background: The Stroop task was used to investigate differences in cognitive function between Long COVID (LC), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and healthy control subjects. Methods: Subjects viewed four color words or neutral (XXXX) stimuli with the same (congruent) different ink (incongruent). Cognitive conflict inferred from response times for pairings of prestimuli subsequent stimuli. Overall effects were assessed by univariate analysis time courses determined binned times. Results: LC ME/CFS had significantly longer than controls indicating dysfunction. Initial ranked > ME HC, decreased according power functions. At end (900s), = HC. Response slower following an incongruent prestimulus. Time series effect, facilitation, interference, surprise index practice law parameters generally similar LC, HC suggesting comparable patterns recruitment resources. prestimulus data analyzed generated positive interference that distinct stimulus effects. Conclusion: have global slowing cannot be overcome impaired communications network nodes during problem solving. Analysis matched – adds a new dimension understanding conflict. Brief Summary: dysfunction demonstrated using which found limitations
