Aging is characterized by a progressive decline in physiological function and underlies several disabilities, including the increased sensitivity of cells tissues to undergo pathological oxidative stress. In recent years, efforts have been made better understand relationship between age stress further develop therapeutic strategies minimize impact both events on age-related diseases. this work, we review oxidant antioxidant systems during aging disease development discuss crosstalk other processes, with focus studies conducted elderly populations.

Presbycusis or age-related hearing loss (ARHL) is one of the most prevalent chronic health problems facing aging populations. Along auditory pathway, stations involved in transmission and processing, function as a system interconnected feedback loops. Regulating hierarchically cortex (AC) neuromodulation can, accordingly, activate both peripheral central plasticity after loss. However, previous ARHL-prevention interventions have mainly focused on preserving structural functional integrity inner ear, overlooking system. In this study, using an animal model spontaneous ARHL, we aim at assessing effects multisession epidural direct current stimulation AC through stereotaxic implantation 1-mm silver ball anode Wistar rats. Consisting 7 sessions (0.1 mA/10 min), alternate days, awake animals, our protocol was applied onset (threshold shift detection 16 months). Click- pure-tone brainstem responses (ABRs) were analyzed two groups, namely electrically stimulated (ES) non-stimulated (NES) sham controls, comparing recordings 18 months age. At months, NES animals showed significantly increased threshold shifts, decreased wave amplitudes, latencies click tonal ABRs, reflecting significant, ARHL evolution. Conversely, ES no significant differences detected any these parameters when indicating delay progression. Electrode placement accurate, did not cause damage, shown by limited presence superficial reactive microglial cells IBA1 immunostaining. conclusion, DC has protective effect function, delaying progression presbycusis.

Several data from the literature have focused on relationship between congenital sensorineural hearing loss, as well acquired and their impact cognition risk of dementia. However, few studies been conducted this subject in countries where access to rehabilitation measures is limited. Thus, objective present study was investigate loss cognitive disorders a correlational approach. This cross-sectional analytical ENT department Center for Disabled (visual, auditory, mental) "Village Bondeko", June September 2023, involving 150 adults (≥20 years) with loss; without history neuropsychic disorders. Sensorineural confirmed by tonal threshold audiometry characterized according WHO criteria; were defined MoCA scale. In total, adults, including 78 men 72 women, collected study. The average age 54.11 ± 20 years, extremes ranging 87 years. univariate analysis, there significant association (p<0.0001) degree analysis variance (ANOVA) comparing means demonstrated very correlation (p ˂ 0.0001) decline functions severity impairment. low level education, marital status, cardiovascular factors associated disorders; however, no advancing age, gender, socioeconomic population. has existence an disorders, multidisciplinary early management loss.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the demographic and clinical features of tinnitus individuals analyse its correlation with associated comorbidities. Methods: The population comprised 147 participants (66 men, 81 women; median age: 52 years) who experienced persistent tinnitus. Comprehensive assessments were carried out, including audiological examinations, scoring using Tinnitus Handicap Inventory, thorough medical evaluations. Statistical analyses applied correspondences between tinnitus, hearing loss, various comorbidities, cardiovascular conditions, metabolic disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease, autoimmune diseases, pulmonary allergic rhinitis. Results: analysis indicated a slight predominance females, comprising 55.1% participants, onset around age 50. Chronic was noted, lasting approximately 46 months. Hearing loss noted in 52.4% patients, bilateral being most prevalent type, affecting 44.2% individuals. Dyslipidaemia found significantly predict (p = 0.003*) left-sided 0.023*). Additionally, atherosclerosis impairment 0.006*) right-sided 0.044*). also correlated elevated intensity values 0.04*). Furthermore, higher levels < 0.00001*). Conclusions: emphasises complex nature links cardiovascular, metabolic, other highlighting necessity for comprehensive, interdisciplinary management.

Objective The current 'gold standard' of audiometry relies on subjective behavioural responses, which is impractical and unreliable for certain groups such as children, individuals with severe disabilities, or the disabled elderly. This study aims to validating blindly a novel electroencephalography (EEG) technique estimate audiometric thresholds quickly.

Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) is linked to dementia, with mitochondrial dysfunction playing a key role in its progression. Deficient tRNA modifications impair protein synthesis and energy metabolism, accelerating ARHL. Mitochonic acid 5 (MA-5) has shown promise as therapeutic candidate by improving function, reducing oxidative stress, stabilizing membrane potential. In this study, we investigated the effects of MA-5 on ARHL cyclin-dependent kinase regulatory subunit-associated 1 (Cdk5rap1) knockout (KO) mice, which exhibit early-onset due abnormalities transfer RNA (mt-tRNA) modifications. treatment effectively attenuated progression Cdk5rap1-KO mice auditory brainstem response thresholds distortion product otoacoustic emissions. It also reduced spiral ganglion outer hair cell loss, while preserving cochlear structural integrity preventing degeneration ligament fibrocytes. Mechanistically, upregulated expression silent information regulator sirtuin promoted nuclear translocation yes-associated protein, both are involved regulating function cellular senescence. Metabolomics analysis further demonstrated that restored lactate accumulation, maintained integrity. These findings suggest viable option for other age-related disorders associated dysfunction.

Background: The extended high-frequency (EHF; 0.9–16 kHz) region is sensitive to noise exposure and can indicate early noise-induced hearing loss. EHF loss (EHFHL; >20 dB HL for averages) may affect pilots’ perception, impacting communication response in flight. Early identification monitoring of EHFHL are crucial health flight safety. However, not included routine medical assessments pilots China. This study aimed develop a nomogram predict with normal audiograms (≤20 at each standard frequency), providing an intervention tool. Methods: A total 1091 were randomly assigned the training set (763) validation (328). Set characteristics compared using univariate analysis. In set, least absolute shrinkage selection operator regression identified key predictors, followed by multivariable binary logistic construct nomogram. nomogram’s performance was evaluated both sets, assessing calibration, discrimination clinical utility. Results: incorporated four factors as follows: left-ear audiometry threshold averages (HFAs: 3, 4, 6 8 kHz; odds ratio [OR] = 1.144; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.083–1.210), right-ear HFAs (OR 1.186, CI 1.115–1.263), time 1.001, 1–1.001) triglyceride 1.393, 1.038–1.885). model’s area under curve 0.819 (95% 0.790–0.850) 0.771 0.712–0.830) during validation. predictive model well calibrated (Hosmer–Lemeshow test, χ 2 10.77; P 0.292).
