The definition of brain complexity is based on the principal property coexistence a high degree integration and differentiation within single neural system. Despite fruitful scope emerging studies involving applicability metrics, there notable scarcity research focusing qualitative characteristics conscious systems, which are recognized for their complexity. These expressed in complex cognitive processes, reflecting interaction between distinct neuropsychological domains, such as attention, memory, language, executive functions (EFs). Cognitive flexibility inhibitory control, instance, emerge from dynamic distributed networks, underscoring interdependence functioning. In light this, present study aimed to evaluate how addressing measures functional connectivity complexity, obtained through resting-state magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), relate aspects. To achieve systematic review was conducted following Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines PICO (Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) strategy. Studies were searched PubMed, CAPES Periodicals, Virtual Health Library databases identify relevant published 2019 March 2024. Articles included type, sample characteristics, methodological aspects, specific listed variables. Exclusion criteria encompassed theoretical studies, animal research, children/adolescents, well those psychiatric conditions, psychoactive substance use, intervention evaluations (e.g., transcranial stimulation), disorders consciousness, due limitations applying measures. Thermodynamically open biological systems not only sustain a life-supporting mutual relationship with their environment by exchanging matter and energy but constantly seek information to navigate probabilistic changes in surroundings. This work argues that cognition conscious thought should be viewed isolation rather as parts of an integral control identify act upon meaningful, semantic viability. Under this framework, the development key cognitive capacities centralized nervous resulting behavior are categorized into distinct Markov decision processes: decision-making partially observable sensory exteroceptive interoceptive information, learning memory, symbolic communication. It is proposed state arises from mechanism for speech production resembling actuator engineered systems. Also known phonological loop, feedback motor cortex provides third type flowing cortex. The continuous, dissipative loop updates fleeting working memory humans advanced layer through sense self, agency perception flow time. These define degrees fitness evolution information-powered organisms.

This review paper provides an overview of complexity-based analysis techniques in biomedical image analysis, examining their theoretical foundations, computational methodologies, and practical applications across various medical imaging modalities. Through a synthesis relevant literature, we explore the utility metrics such as fractal dimension, entropy measures, network characterizing complexity images (e.g. magnetic resonance (MRI), computed tomography (CT) scans, X-ray images). Additionally, discuss clinical implications areas cancer detection, neuroimaging, cardiovascular imaging, highlighting its potential to improve diagnostic accuracy, prognostic assessment, treatment outcomes. The concludes that significantly enhances interpretability power paving way for more personalized precise care. By elucidating role this aims provide insights into current trends, challenges, future directions rapidly evolving field.
