The definition of brain complexity is based on the principal property coexistence a high degree integration and differentiation within single neural system. Despite fruitful scope emerging studies involving applicability metrics, there notable scarcity research focusing qualitative characteristics conscious systems, which are recognized for their complexity. These expressed in complex cognitive processes, reflecting interaction between distinct neuropsychological domains, such as attention, memory, language, executive functions (EFs). Cognitive flexibility inhibitory control, instance, emerge from dynamic distributed networks, underscoring interdependence functioning. In light this, present study aimed to evaluate how addressing measures functional connectivity complexity, obtained through resting-state magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), relate aspects. To achieve systematic review was conducted following Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines PICO (Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) strategy. Abstract Background Concussions are among the most common sport-related injuries. While symptoms remain widely studied outcome, other measures such as resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) being increasingly to better understand neurophysiology of concussion. The basis for rsfMRI is temporal blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) signal, which shows complex changes in brain activity over course a scan. BOLD signal can be operationalized many ways, effects how data analyzed and interpreted. It therefore important neuroimaging researchers metric discriminatory between concussion subjects healthy controls, knowledge may aid design future studies. primary purpose our study was employ random forest approach determine (of we selected six) controls. As secondary objective, aimed anatomical regions interest were these two groups. Methods We performed analysis prospectively collected (n = 28), alongside control retrieved through an open-source repository 379). After pre-processing CONN 21a, six metrics computed: mean, standard deviation, Lyapunov exponent, sample entropy, amplitude low frequency fluctuations (ALFF), fractional ALFF (fALFF). Using 60/20/20 (training/testing/validation) split data, models built using 'scikit-learn' 'imbalanced-learn' subjects. Results found that metric, with ROC AUC 0.993. With respect interest, from cerebellum, vermis, putamen (left) often discriminatory. Conclusions Our provides insight into groups, well help distinguish subjects. This inform new research studies take aim at assessing or monitoring rsfMRI.Trial registration: Not applicable.

This review paper provides an overview of complexity-based analysis techniques in biomedical image analysis, examining their theoretical foundations, computational methodologies, and practical applications across various medical imaging modalities. Through a synthesis relevant literature, we explore the utility metrics such as fractal dimension, entropy measures, network characterizing complexity images (e.g. magnetic resonance (MRI), computed tomography (CT) scans, X-ray images). Additionally, discuss clinical implications areas cancer detection, neuroimaging, cardiovascular imaging, highlighting its potential to improve diagnostic accuracy, prognostic assessment, treatment outcomes. The concludes that significantly enhances interpretability power paving way for more personalized precise care. By elucidating role this aims provide insights into current trends, challenges, future directions rapidly evolving field.
