Abstract Context Relationships between ultraprocessed food (UPF) intakes and health have been well described in adults, but evidence of these relationships older adults is rather limited. Demographic shifts aging emphasize the importance understanding role diet maintaining during later life. Objective The aim this systematic review was to identify outcomes associated with UPF consumption those aged ≥60 years. Data Sources Medline, Web Science, Scopus, Embase databases were searched from inception until June 2023, using search terms representing any outcome. Observational studies restricted individuals years Nova classification included. Articles screened independently by 2 researchers PECOS inclusion criteria. Extraction Two-thirds present prospective cohort (n = 4) rest cross-sectional 2). number participants ranged 652 2713 across 6 studies. mean age 67 73 Analysis In studies, highest incident frailty, dyslipidemia, renal function decline, abdominal obesity. For intake negative similar young middle-aged cohorts, addition nutritional frailty worse cognitive performance. Conclusions Currently, limited how high could be for influences ability inform policy practice recommendations. More research required owing very specifically adults. Although food matrix research is still in its infancy, there an emerging understanding of the important role on human nutrition and physiology, as well for public health. This has largely been propelled forward by involving different milk dairy matrices which revealed that addition to their distinct array nutrients bioactive compounds, foods also contain complex microstructures act nutrient delivery systems set them apart from other groups. Due these properties, may be uniquely positioned help Americans meet many health needs. The aim this manuscript describe activities findings a National Dairy Council-sponsored symposium focused connecting science with opportunities improving proceedings paper summarizes communicates presentations panel discussions, key insights, next steps leverage evidence (e.g., milk, yogurt, cheese) develop science-backed strategies support equity.

The rising intake of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) among the pediatric population poses challenges due to lack precise and easily accessible tools quantify such intake. This complicates understanding its effects on dietary quality hampers design interventions prevent negative impact UPF consumption health. Given these challenges, it is essential establish reliable methods assess effect diet. study aims determine relationship between score characteristics. cross-sectional involved 353 participants aged 3 17. included (1) collection a three-day food record; (2) an evaluation across five groups; (3) categorization frequency (0, 1, 2, or up times weekly); (4) scoring by cumulative Principal component analysis regression models were utilized diet associations with score. Higher groups associated increased energy, fats, sodium (p < 0.01); decreased fiber = 0.03), vegetables, fruits, cereals 0.05); higher sugar reduced vitamins A C 0.05). Four principal components, representing over 65% sample variability, identified two healthy less patterns. Linear indicated at lower scores, declining scores. represents useful tool for assessing characteristics in populations.
