Introduction
Alcoholic
liver
disease
(ALD)
is
a
pathological
state
of
the
caused
by
longterm
alcohol
consumption.
Recent
studies
have
shown
that
modulation
gut
microbiota
and
its
metabolic
products,
specifically
short-chain
fatty
acids
(SCFAs),
exert
critical
role
in
evolution
progression
ALD.
The
Liuweizhiji
Gegen-Sangshen
beverage
(LGS),
as
functional
China,
derived
from
traditional
Chinese
herbal
formula
has
been
clinically
applied
for
ALD
treatment,
demonstrating
significant
efficacy.
However,
underlying
mechanisms
LGS
alleviating
involving
regulation
remain
unknown.
Methods
In
this
study,
an
murine
model
based
on
National
Institute
Alcohol
Abuse
Alcoholism
(NIAAA)
method
was
established.
Results

showed
oral
treatment
dose-dependently
alleviated
alcoholinduced

through
decreasing
levels
ALT,
AST
proinflammatory
cytokines
(TNF-α,
IL-6,
IL-1β).

enzymes

activity.
Notably,
regarding
most
detected
indices,
effect
(particularly
at
medium
high
dose)

to

drug

favorable
maintaining
intestinal
barrier
function
reducing
epithelial

rRNA
sequencing
remarkably
modulated

recovering
alcohol-induced
microbial
changes
mediating
enrichment

bacterial
genera

SCFAs

Abstract
Background
Liuweizhiji
Gegen-Sangshen
oral
liquid
(LGS),
as
a
Chinese
medicinal
preparation,
is
developed
from
Traditional
formula
consisting
of
six
herbs,
including
Puerariae
lobatae
radix,
Hoveniae
semen,
Imperatae
rhizoma,
Crataegi
fructus,
Mori
fructus
and
Canarli
has
been
extensively
utilized
in
the
prevention
treatment
alcoholic
liver
disease
(ALD)
clinically.
Previous
study
demonstrated
that
LGS
dose-dependently
mitigated
ALD
rat
models.
However,
whether
how
main
characteristic
constituents
(the
flavonoid
polysaccharide
fractions,
LGSF
LGSP)
contribute
to
anti-ALD
effect
remains
unclear.
