Background: Necrotizing enterocolitis is the leading gastrointestinal cause of morbidity and mortality in neonatal intensive care units. Despite advancements care, incidence NEC remains unchanged. This study evaluated trends severity over past decade identified associated risk factors our NICU population. Methods: was a retrospective cohort comparing prevalence among VLBW infants born before 32 weeks gestation across following two periods: 2012–2016 2017–2021. Clinical data were extracted from medical records, with diagnosis grading based on modified Bell’s criteria. Results: A total 299 included. Those later period significantly more preterm had lower birth weights. While overall increased cohort, rate surgical lower. Logistic regression hemodynamic instability requiring pressor support, late-onset sepsis, earlier gestational age as significant for NEC. Conclusions: Although higher its compared to cohort. These findings suggest that feeding protocols may contribute improved outcomes. Early stages represent alternative intestinal or systemic conditions warranting further research better diagnosis.
