Melatonin is indispensable for the homeostasis of plants and animals. In humans, it can help prevent or be an adjuvant treatment several diseases mainly related to immune system, inflammation, oxidative stress. Moreover, a melatonin-rich diet linked health benefits, such as regulation circadian rhythm, immunological epilepsy control, delaying aging process, diminishing hormones cancer. This review aimed show effects melatonin in beyond its traditional use. The results showed present scavenging free radicals, reducing inflammatory cytokines, modulating system. improve insulin resistance, blood pressure, LDL-c, adipose tissue mass, adhesion molecules, endothelial impairment, plaque formation. These result neuro- cardioprotection, improvement liver diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, dermatitis, COVID-19, polycystic ovaries, sepsis. We conclude that plant benefit patients with many besides sleep problems neurodegeneration. Plant may more cost-effective fewer adverse events than synthetic. However, clinical trials should performed adequate doses, formulation, time.

In the decades since their discovery in plants mid-to-late 1900s, melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) and serotonin (5-methoxytryptamine) have been established as own class of phytohormone become popular targets for examination study stress ameliorating compounds. The indoleamines play roles across plant life cycle from reproduction to morphogenesis environmental perception. There is growing interest harnessing power these neurotransmitters applied agricultural settings, particularly we face increasingly volatile climates food production; however, there still a lot learn about mechanisms indoleamine action plants. A recent explosion compounds has led exponential growth field research particular. This concept paper aims summarize current status highlight some emerging trends.

Nowadays, there is a global surge in interest surrounding novel foods, particularly sprouts, microgreens, and baby leaves, attributed to their rich content of bioactive compounds, such as phenolic derivatives, glucosinolates, vitamins. This study delves into the impact exogenously applied melatonin on foods derived from Brassica oleracea L. Two distinct cultivars broccoli (Brassica var. italica Plenck), namely Sicilian sprouting (Broccolo nero) commercial variety (Cavolo Broccolo Ramoso Calabrese), were compared across leaves stages, adhering organic farming practices. Various doses (0, 50, 100 µM) administered at each harvesting stage. Plantlets collected different growth stages assessed for key morphometric traits, including weight, hypocotyl length, cotyledon dimensions during sprouts For number true recorded, while stem length was additionally measured. The analysis glucosinolates carried out using high-performance liquid chromatograph with diode array detector (HPLC-DAD). results revealed significant variations among experimental factors considered. Melatonin application significantly influenced parameters exhibiting notable width, leaf width. GLSs profile exhibited between genotypes studied. Particularly noteworthy tendency be higher stage stage, ranging 24.07 4.61 µmol g−1 d.w. respectively.

Melatonin (MT) and brassinolide (BL) are phytohormones that regulate various physiological processes in plants. This study investigates their effects on Wolffia arrhiza when exposed to cadmium (Cd). Plant hormones were quantified using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, while photosynthetic pigments phytochelatins (PCs) analyzed through high-performance chromatography. Protein, monosaccharide levels, antioxidant activities also spectrophotometrically measured. The findings reveal MT BL treatment decreased Cd accumulation W. compared plants only Cd. was particularly effective reversing Cd-induced growth inhibition reducing stress markers more significantly than BL. It enhanced activity maintained higher levels of pigments, proteins, sugars. Although less these aspects, it promoted greater synthesis glutathione PCs Cd-exposed duckweed. Overall, both alleviate the negative impact arrhiza, confirming crucial role supporting plant health under metal conditions.
