Abstract The passive accumulation of silicon (Si) generally depends on the regulation plant transpiration rates. It is challenging to comprehend how plants use Si adapt shaded habitats where they have low Therefore, we hypothesized that partly due physiological demand rather than being entirely dependent regulation. To test this hypothesis, concentrations and total minerals at various positions foliage branches within crowns Juniperus chinensis L. trees were examined determine whether branch had a allocation resist shade. in consistently higher areas sunny same crown, regardless position crown or foliar age. However, displayed more available light, which linked orientation. Additionally, weak dependence light. These results suggested Si, an energy-saving element supplements cell walls, could also supplement carbon-based components photosynthetic organs balance energy limitations habitats. Thus, high foliage, not branches, was explained by make up for decreased supply caused

Growing crops on marginal lands is a promising solution to alleviate the increasing pressure agricultural land in Europe. Such will however be at same time exposed increased drought and pathogen prevalence, already challenging soil conditions. Some sustainable practices, such as Silicon (Si) foliar fertilization, have been proposed these two stress factors, but not tested under controlled, future climate We hypothesized that Si fertilization would beneficial for climate, cascading effects ecosystem processes, many of them are directly dependent plant health. this hypothesis by exposing spring barley growing macrocosms (three with, three without treatment) 2070 projections an ecotron facility.
