Early sweet cherries have a high economic impact on cherry growers but poorer quality characteristics and shorter shelf-life than late cherries. Melatonin has been proposed as biostimulant that regulates plant fruit growth increases but, in general vegetables, there is controversy about its effects. Therefore, this work aimed to evaluate the of exogenous preharvest melatonin applications at dusk bioactive compounds two early cultivars.

Elicitors of plant defence responses can trigger mechanisms that are able to protect tissues from biotic or abiotic stresses. Since one response involves the activation secondary metabolites’ biosynthesis, purpose this study was evaluate effect chitosan and melatonin pre-harvest treatments on quality nutritional parameters fruits blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.). Across two years experiment, three different cultivars (cv.s. ‘Cosmopolitan’, ‘Hortblue Poppins’ ‘Legacy’) were treated with 1% 100 µM every weeks during ripening season ripe progressively harvested analysed. The treatment both elicitors had only slight effects dry matter, soluble solids content, titratable acidity pH, a cultivar-dependent response. On other hand, significantly affected levels phenylpropanoid antioxidant compounds in all cvs. years, higher accumulation total anthocyanins phenolics enhancement capacity, positive nutraceutical fruits. anthocyanin profile terms absolute concentrations relative proportion single by harvest year cv., highlighting role genetic background environmental conditions (with particular reference summer heat stress) elicitor treatments.
