In view of a constant growth in the human population on Earth, provision necessary amount high-quality food looks challenging. As over 10% crop yields are annually lost due to presence phytopathogens, development novel, eco-friendly methods pest eradication might contribute avoiding nutritional shortages. Here, we propose controlled application cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAPP) generated form an jet (APPJ), for which conducted multivariate optimization working parameters with use design experiments (DoE) addition response surface methodology (RSM). After estimating optimal operating conditions APPJ, determined inactivation rates caused by 2 min CAPP exposure towards bacterial phytopathogens from three species Dickeya solani, Pectobacterium atrosepticum and carotovorum artificially inoculated plant seeds four species. Logarithmic reductions, as key result this work, were enclosed range 1.61–4.95 case Cucumis sativus, Pisum sativum, Vigna radiata, while bacteria-inoculated Zea mays seeds, lower antibacterial properties APPJ equaling 0.86–1.12 logs noted. The herein applied did not reveal any statistically significant detrimental effects germination seed coat integrity, or early growth. Even promotion 20.96% was observed APPJ-exposed seeds. By applying colorimetric assays optical emission spectrometry (OES), oxidative potential identifying reactive oxygen (ROS) •OH, •HO2, •O2−, O3, 1O2 nitrogen (RNS) N, NO2, NO3 responsible APPJ. summary, universal antiphytopathogenic treatment reached proper revealed against strains family Pectobacteriaceae diverse data presented may future agriculture field provide alternatives pesticides prevention-based control pathogenic bacteria.

Few studies have considered whether hidden (asymptomatic) plant pathogen infection alters ecological interactions at the higher trophic levels, even though such still affects physiology. We explored this question in two field experiments, where varieties of lettuce (Little Gem, Tom Thumb) infected with Botrytis cinerea were either (1) naturally colonised by aphids or (2) placed an established aphid colony. then recorded traits and numbers species aphids, their predators, parasitoids hyperparasitoids. Infection significantly affected quality. In first experiment, symptomatically plants had fewest natural enemies aphids. The diversity abundance did not differ between asymptomatically uninfected Little Gem plants, but assemblage for Thumb plants. Aphids on less attractive to predators than those while hyperparasitoids affected. second when we excluded enemies, lower present, difference was removed, most likely because attracted more insect enemies. This suggests that may important consequences multitrophic interactions.

Olive oil is appreciated worldwide for its unique nutritional and organoleptic properties. It rich in unsaturated fatty acids antioxidants, which are well-known their health benefits. The qualitative characteristics of olive can be adversely affected by various biotic abiotic factors. Particularly, microbial pathogens, such as mold fungi, cause the deterioration and, thus, a serious risk to consumer health. In this study, effectiveness DNA-based methods, i.e., endpoint PCR, Real-Time PCR (RT-PCR), loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), all based on ITS2-28S region, were used evaluate fungal contamination samples extra virgin oil. All DNA techniques able detect, albeit at different levels, infections affecting some basic quality parameters oils analyzed. However, compared and/or RT-PCR, LAMP assay greatly simplified accelerated identification pathogenic samples. This may encourage industry adopt method order offer an with specific therefore guarantee safety precious food product.
