The impact of clinical anxiety on learning and decision-making is well-established. However, the influence temporary states optimal belief updating in healthy individuals remains less explored. In this study, we investigated how anxious affect process forming revising sensorimotor predictions. Study participants engaged a virtual reality interceptive task while manipulated performance incentives to induce situational pressure. We then assessed changes physiological arousal, self-reported levels, performance, eye movement patterns. Employing Bayesian computational models perception, analysed quickly predictive movements were adjusted across multiple trials. results revealed that heightened led slower rate movements, accompanied by an increase visual exploration environment. These findings deepen our understanding emotional states, like anxiety, interact with active inference behaviours. Specifically, they highlight limitation imposed behaviours during conditions. discuss implications these within context theoretical frameworks such as free energy principle, which conceptualises state internal entropy organisms seek alleviate.

Bringing precision to the understanding and treatment of mental disorders requires instruments for studying clinically relevant individual differences. One promising approach is development computational assays: integrating models with cognitive tasks infer latent patient-specific disease processes in brain computations. While recent years have seen many methodological advancements modelling cross-sectional patient studies, much less attention has been paid basic psychometric properties (reliability construct validity) measures provided by assays. In this review, we assess extent issue examining emerging empirical evidence. We find that suffer from poor properties, which poses a risk invalidating previous findings undermining ongoing research efforts using assays study (and even group) provide recommendations how address these problems and, crucially, embed them within broader perspective on key developments are needed translating clinical practice.

Background: Pathophysiological models of pediatric bipolar disorder (PBD) are lacking. Multimodal approaches may provide a comprehensive description the complex relationship between brain and behavior. Aim: To assess behavioral, neuropsychological, neurophysiological, neuroanatomical alterations in youth with PBD. Methods: Subjects PBD (n = 23) healthy controls (HCs, n underwent (a) clinical assessments encompassing severity psychiatric symptoms, (b) neuropsychological evaluation, (c) analyses event-related potentials (related to passive viewing fearful, neutral, happy faces during electroencephalography recording, (d) cortical thickness deep gray matter volume measurement using magnetic resonance imaging. Canonical correlation were used relationships these dimensions. Results: Youth had higher levels anxiety (p < 0.001) borderline personality features 0.001), greater commission errors for negative stimuli 0.003), delayed deliberation time smaller risk adjustment scores 0.002) than HCs. Furthermore, they showed thinning frontal, parietal, occipital areas (all p P300 0.29). In PBD, thickening amplitude positively correlated more stimuli, longer times, reduced adjustment, panic separation anxiety, relationships, whereas negatively depression (overall loadings > or <0.3). Limitations: Small sample size, cross-sectional design, limited variables investigated. Conclusions: This preliminary work that multimodal assessment might be viable tool providing pathophysiological model unifies behavioral

Abstract We show how any finite physical system with morphological, i.e. three-dimensional embedding or shape, degrees of freedom and locally limited free energy will, under the constraints principle, evolve over time towards a neuromorphic morphology that supports hierarchical computations in which each ‘level’ hierarchy enacts coarse-graining its inputs, dually, fine-graining outputs. Such hierarchies occur throughout biology, from architectures intracellular signal transduction pathways to large-scale organization perception action cycles mammalian brain. The close formal connections between cone-cocone diagrams (CCCD) as models quantum reference frames on one hand, CCCDs topological field theories other, allow representation such fully-general quantum-computational framework neural networks.

Introduction Learned helplessness often arises when an individual feels that a challenging situation is inescapable. Childhood trauma can lead to feelings of learned in youth and adulthood. Resiliency theory suggests positive experiences childhood adulthood may counteract traumatic reduce promote optimism, the antithesis helplessness. The purpose this study was examine relationship adverse (ACEs) with optimism whether adult (PCEs PAEs) lessen even presence ACEs greater optimism. Methods sample consisted 435 adults who were recruited participate through Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk), crowdsourcing recruitment service. Participants lived United States 18–56 years at time study. Each participant completed survey about their as adult. Data analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) Mplus Version 7. Results scale had two factors which we termed associated higher self-report lower When PCEs added model, retained but no longer positively not PAEs negatively correlated inversely correlated. Discussion Potentially childhood, measured by ACEs, more throughout life. However, both increase helplessness, experienced.
