Background and aims A majority of older adult suicide decedents used firearms. In this study, we focused on age 75+ who disclosed their suicidal intent within a month injury/death to examine demographic clinical characteristics associated with firearm use access restriction attempts by family members. Methods The 2017–2019 U.S. National Violent Death Reporting System provided data ( N = 1,734 disclosers; 1,476 males 258 females; 21.4% 75+). Generalized linear model (GLM) for Poisson distribution log link was risk factors. Firearm decedents' members were examined based coroner/medical examiner law enforcement (CME/LE) reports. Results Nearly three quarters disclosers members, 82.9% 27.5% females GLM results showed males, non-Hispanic white people, residents in the South West regions had higher likelihood use. CME/LE reports 140 out 1,294 included narratives related or lack thereof. restrictions not attempted 65 cases because did take disclosure seriously promised no self-harm.
