Abstract Aims While the cross-sectional relationship between internet gaming disorder (IGD) and depression is well-established, whether IGD predicts future remains debated, underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This large-scale, three-wave longitudinal study aimed to clarify predictive role of in explore mediating effects resilience sleep distress. Methods A cohort 41,215 middle school students from Zigong City was assessed at three time points: November 2021 (T1), 2022 (T2) 2023 (T3). Digital addiction (DA), an umbrella term referring to any type of digital media, such as the internet, smartphone, games, and social is a significant factor influencing students' academic achievement (AA). Many scholars have contributed this line research from around world. Nevertheless, literature lacks holistic investigation how DA-AA field evolved, which could guide future studies.
