Purpose Entrepreneurial orientation is critical to staying ahead in the current competitive hospitality industry. Drawing on theories of social capital, socioemotional wealth and upper echelons, this study aims highlight mechanisms through which CEO servant leadership enhances entrepreneurial orientation. Moreover, paper examines (1) mediating role internal capital leadership–entrepreneurial relationship (2) moderating family non-family firms. Design/methodology/approach Our industry sample frame was based several databases (SABI, Camerdata, INE). Large medium-sized hotels with more than 30 employees Canary Balearic Islands (Spain) were targeted. After eliminating duplicate cases entities no longer business, 597 remained. Complete information obtained for 176 hotels. To test our hypotheses, structural equation modeling partial least squares (PLS) Smart PLS 4 used. Findings results revealed that positive orientation, mediated by its three dimensions: structural, relational cognitive. In addition, also showed relationships observed generally stronger firms Practical implications shows CEOs can improve practice implementing appropriate management selection training policies.
