Posttraumatic Appraisals Mediate the Relationship Between Childhood Psychological Abuse and Complex PTSD Symptom Severity

ABSTRACT
Previous
research
established
a
connection
between
childhood
psychological
abuse
(CPA),
common
but
understudied
form
of
child
maltreatment,
and
symptoms
posttraumatic
stress.
However,
the
CPA
complex
PTSD
remains
underexplored.
This
study
investigated
relationship
CPA,
appraisals
(i.e.,
fear,
alienation,
betrayal,
self‐blame,
anger,
shame),
among
sample
263
college
students
using
structural
equation
modeling.
The
model
uncovered
significant
direct
indirect
effects,
demonstrating
association
appraisals.
Further,
were
significantly
associated
with
symptoms.

There
is
established
evidence
that
childhood
maltreatment
associated
with
Complex
Posttraumatic
Stress
Disorder
(C-PTSD),
although
the
underlying
mechanisms
are
not
still
precise.
The
current
study
aimed
to
systematically
review
empirical
studies
examining
potential
psychological
factors
linking
C-PTSD
and
gaps
in
literature.

Reporting
Items

Systematic
reviews
Meta-Analyses
protocol,
19
original

total
of
n
=
1,075
subjects
were
analyzed.
Five
mediating
processes
identified:

Emotional
Processing
as
approaching,
accepting,

regulating,

meaning
of,
utilizing

transforming
emotions;

Intrapersonal
Factors
describing
operating
constructs
occurring
within
person,
such
attitudes,
decisions,
self-concept,
self-esteem,
self-regulation;
(c)
Interpersonal
elements
shape
how
individuals
engage
each
other,
including
personal
characteristics,
communication
dynamic;
(d)
Dissociation
defense
mechanism
which
conflicting
impulses
kept
apart
threatening
ideas
feelings
separated
from
rest
psych;
(e)
Social
(e.g.,
attitudes)
affect
thought
behavior
social
contexts
self-concept
vis-à-vis
other
groups.
Further
research
required
examine
extent
targeting
these
mediators
may
act

supporting

Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories in the Treatment of Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD): A Case Study

This
case
study
explores
the
memory
reconsolidation-based
technique
of
reconsolidation
traumatic
memories
(RTM)
to
address
complex
post-traumatic
stress
disorder
(CPTSD).
Using
framework
CPTSD
and
components
International
Trauma
Questionnaire
(ITQ),
several
presenting
symptoms
history
childhood
trauma
(adverse
experiences
assessment)
were
assessed.
The
individual,
based
on
trauma-informed
care
approach,
went
through
a
total
eight
sessions
after
initial
consultation
that
included
RTM
index
events,
reframing,
self-regulation
techniques.
internalizing
measured
before
intervention.
findings
suggest
protocol,
coupled
with
constructs
using
ITQ
trauma,
could
provide
benefits
for
individuals
from
prolonged
exposure
during
childhood.
