Abstract Background: There is a rapid surge in the elderly population globally and Ghana. Ageing frequently associated with emergence of some chronic diseases due to decline physiological physical functions. Early detection or possible risk factors disease development critical reducing mortality morbidity among elderly. This study, therefore, sought explore relationship between inflammatory cytokine-tumour necrosis factor (TNF-α), handgrip strength presence seeking medical care from hospital Methods: was hospital-based cross-sectional study carried out individuals 60 years above. A total 104 persons who met inclusion criteria consented were enrolled on study. Handgrip measured using digital hand dynamometer plasma TNF-α levels determined sandwich ELISA. Abstract Objective Benzene, ethylbenzene, meta/para-xylene, and ortho-xylene, collectively referred to as benzene, xylene (BEX), constitute the main components of volatile organic aromatic compounds (VOACs) can have adverse effects on human health. The relationship between exposure BEX hearing loss (HL) in adult U.S. population was aimed be assessed. Methods Cross-sectional data from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) for years 2003–2004, 2011–2012, 2015–2016 were analyzed. This dataset included complete demographic characteristics, pure-tone audiometry measurements, compound detection NHANES database. A weighted multivariate logistic regression model employed investigate associations blood concentrations HL, low-frequency (SFHL), high-frequency (HFHL). Results 2174 participants included, with prevalence rates SFHL, HFHL being 46.81%, 25.23%, 45.86%, respectively. Exposure cumulative increased risk (odds ratios [ORs] 1.36, 1.22, 1.42, 1.23, 1.31, respectively; all P < 0.05). In analysis SFHL outcome, m-/p-xylene, o-xylene, overall (OR 1.26, 1.21, 1.28, 1.20, 1.25, For HFHL, Conclusion Our study indicated that a positive correlation individual or ortho-xylene HFHL. Further research is imperative acquire more comprehensive understanding mechanisms by which compounds, notably BEX, causing validate these findings longitudinal environmental studies.

Using data from Wave 5 (2018) of the Mexican Health and Aging Study, this research examines implications six social leisure activities for cognition among married unmarried men women in Mexico, while considering their physical health depressive symptoms. The findings reveal some marital status gender differences similarities. This study indicates that church attendance volunteering might be related to poorer cognition, whereas a training course, club participation, board games, remote communication can provide cognitive benefits. Despite poor vision, hearing, functional limitations, associated with better cognition. Yet, case hearing symptoms, volunteering, games linked insights help develop intervention programs improving later-life functioning through particularly individuals deteriorating health.

Background Hearing loss has been related to impaired cognition among older adults. The cost effectiveness of existing hearing support tools is controversial. Other potential modifying strategies that could effectively intervene in this prevalent and far-reaching association between cognitive decline remain unclear. This study aimed narratively quantitatively synthesize the mediators moderators involved link impairment from a psycho-social physical point view. Method We searched 6 databases for articles exploring mediating or moderating associations loss-cognition inception March, 2024. Data were synthesized by meta-analytic approaches. Results search yielded 63 included studies. Social (social engagement, social support, age, sex, ethnicity, reserve)-psycho (depression, anxiety, loneliness, resilience)-physical (cardiovascular diseases risk factors, perceived health, disability, APOE carrier, vision impairment, gait speed) variables mediated moderated relationship varying degrees. Subgroup analyses identified susceptible populations at greater decline, including women, younger elders with loss, adults dual sensory loss. Conclusion Combined interventions targeting these modifiable across dimensions may be more cost-effective intervening ensemble loss-cognitive
