Introduction: Mental health literacy (MHL) refers to the knowledge and beliefs related recognizing, managing, preventing mental disorders. University students' understanding of is crucial, as this population faces significant psychological challenges. This systematic review aimed assess level MHL among university students identify key factors influencing their knowledge.Methods: A was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Literature searched in Web Science, Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, Medline for studies published between January 2020 December 2024. Eleven relevant articles were selected based on inclusion criteria. Data extracted analyzed determine main affecting students.Results: Findings revealed that varies significantly influenced by multiple factors. Sociodemographic characteristics, cultural diversity, stigmatization, psychiatric history, personal experiences with illness or distress identified determinants levels. Limited awareness persistent stigma common barriers ability recognize seek help conditions.Conclusions: shaped diverse contextual Addressing enhancing through targeted educational interventions could improve outcomes academic settings. Mental health issues in Nigeria are pervasive, yet the stigma surrounding them limits open discussions and access to care. Music artists, activists, therapists have emerged as key advocates, using music a platform raise awareness challenge misconceptions. This study explored role of Nigerian activism shaping mental discourse, highlighting their contributions public understanding. Additionally, examined how could influence policies country. A qualitative approach was used, involving in-depth interviews with seven participants, including musicians engaged advocacy.
