Abstract Global demand for food is expected to nearly double by 2050. Alternative proteins (AP) have been proposed as a sustainable solution provide security natural resources become more depleted. However, the growth and consumer intake of AP remains limited. This review aims better understand challenges environmental impacts four main categories: plant-based, insect-based, microbe-derived, cultured meat seafood. The benefits plant-based insect-based documented but microbe-derived not fully assessed. development alternative products with nutritional sensory profiles similar their conventional counterparts highly challenging. Furthermore, incomplete safety assessments lack clear regulatory guidelines confuse industry hamper progress. Much still needs be done support utilization within context supporting drive make global system sustainable.

Worldwide demand for the seafood is increasing due to ongoing population increase. Meeting of that with environmentally sustainable and good quality suffering reliance on traditional aquaculture fishing methods insufficient supply demand. Therefore, it crucial use modern technology, like cell-based cultured seafood, produce seafood. In addition addressing food shortage, produced through these advanced technologies plays an important role in various environmental, health, welfare, ethical concerns associated aquaculture. This includes combating issues such as pollution, severe illnesses cancer cardiovascular diseases, zoonotic problem overfishing. Although trend has been established several years, not grown much meat manufacturing widely discussed. Consequently, improve production substitute necessary understand overcome limitations challenges technologies.

In vitro meat cultivation, a cutting-edge innovation in food science, may represent more sustainable and ethical source of animal proteins compared with conventionally grown meat. An important challenge for cultivation lies eliminating the use fetal bovine serum (FBS) cell culture media due to concerns. Milk whey is nutrient-rich liquid portion milk, derived as byproduct dairy industry. Similar FBS, contains that are crucial nutrition, adhesion, biomolecular transport. this study, we investigated whether (WP) can replace FBS supporting muscle using C2C12 myoblast model. Accordingly, under serum-free conditions, cells were treated 2 WP mixtures, grouping high (β-LG 1.25%, α-LA BSA 1.25%) low 0.07%, 0.15%, 0.15%) selected concentrations individual positively affected growth preceding dose-response study. Cells cultured only basal Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium included negative control, 10% positive control. maintained treatment 48 h (d 1 2) support proliferation. Subsequently, all treatments replaced standard mitogenic 2% horse (HS) medium until full differentiation 6). The effects on morphology, viability, lactate dehydrogenase release assessed after d 1, 2, 6, respectively. results showed stimulated proliferation similar subsequently facilitated myotube formation when or switched HS medium. After differentiation, these also exhibited increased expression markers such creatine kinase citrate synthase underwent morphological changes from spindle-shaped fused elongated myotubes, contrast This study demonstrates promising alternative considerably replacing FBS-based supplements cultivated products.

Cell-based food, including cultured meat, introduces an innovative complement to our dietary options, introducing cellular agriculture and tissue engineering on the meat market together with traditional livestock farming. Originating from medical cultivation techniques, this approach is now tailored for food production, prioritizing cost-effectiveness, palatability, resource efficiency. As technology strives efficiently upscale consumer acceptance stands as a key factor in adopting new protein source. This review explores advances cultivating muscle fat tissues vitro, emphasizing importance of achieving maturity, innovating scaffolds, optimizing media composition closely replicate qualities meat. It also addresses quality assessments based its texture, nutritional content, flavor. A concise examination perceptions reveals that influenced by blend cultural, psychological, social factors, balancing positive potential outlook meat’s benefits society, environment, animal welfare against concerns about unnaturalness, uncertainty, safety.
