Extracting the economic value by integrated utilization of space in old communities is crucial for encouraging independent participation from enterprises and residents, reducing reliance on government leadership fiscal investment. The rational development of urban underground space resources (UUSRs) is especially crucial for alleviating “urban diseases”, and it great significance exploring the appropriateness (UUS) under multiple constraints use UUSRs. This research selects UUS in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, as object, establishes an evaluation index system suitability perspective sustainable development, including terrain geomorphology, engineering geological environment, hydrogeological sensitive factors, regional level, distribution ecological reserve, well other multi-source heterogeneous data. On this basis, relationship between utilization various factors was studied. We constructed a comprehensive model using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) multi-objective linear weighting method. results study show that protection hazards have greater impact on suitability. suitable secondarily areas City account 14.74% 30.66% total area, respectively. Our study meticulously pursued its objectives through a strategic data-gathering approach and thorough analytical evaluation. In the data collection phase, we undertook an exhaustive accumulation of geographical environmental information, utilizing high-resolution satellite images diverse thematic maps. Underground space is considered a critical urban resource that can significantly promote sustainable development under rational planning. This study, taking the Longgang region in SE China as an example, comprehensively considers dual influences of geological environmental factors and socio-economic factors, incorporating key cost indicators. Following principle “stratification classification”, detailed assessment framework was developed to evaluate suitability underground for across various depths, systematic analysis conducted.
