Abstract BACKGROUND Autophagy plays an important role against pathogen infections in both insects and plants. Insect vectors employ autophagy as intrinsic antiviral defense mechanism viral infections, whereas viruses can exploit to enhance their transmission via insect vectors. The Cotton leaf curl Multan virus (CLCuMuV) is transmitted by the AsiaII7 cryptic species of Bemisia tabaci , however, involved regulating this remains unclear. RESULT In study, it was observed that CLCuMuV infection induced whitefly, evidenced elevated level ATG8‐II upregulation Atg3, Atg8 Atg9 Atg12 . Both administration inhibitor bafilomycin A1 silencing expression increased load enhanced transmission. Conversely, activation rapamycin feeding significantly reduced amount inhibited efficiency CONCLUSION activate pathway whiteflies. leads subsequent degradation suppresses efficiency, suppression promotes Our research provides insight into potential mechanisms. © 2025 Society Chemical Industry.
