Abstract The long-tern implications of stress during university for individuals’ mental health are not well understood so far. Hence, we aimed to examine the potential effect while studying at on depression in later life. We analysed data from two waves longitudinal Study Occupational Allergy Risks. Using ‘work overload’ and ‘proving oneself’ scales Trier Inventory Chronic Stress Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2), participants reported chronic (2007–2009, mean age 22.2 years, T1) depressive symptoms ten years (2017–2018, 31.6 T2). performed linear regression analyses explore association between (T1) (T2). Participants (N = 548, 59% female) indicated rather low levels (PHQ-2 score: 1.14 (range: 0–6)). observed evidence a overload T1 T2 (regression coefficient (B) 0.270; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.131 0.409; standardised (β) 0.170). Our yielded an risk This finding underlines importance implementing sustainable preventive measures against among students.

Background: Students’ achievement emotions profoundly influence their learning, academic performance, well-being, and educational trajectories. Understanding how students regulate these is crucial for flourishing.Aims: We examined students’ strategies regulating three common (enjoyment, anxiety, boredom), relate to emotions, health problems, achievement-related outcomes.Theoretical Framework: Our theoretical model of emotion regulation derived from the control-value theory (Pekrun, 2006) Harley et al.’s (2019) in settings. It considers six groups strategies: situation selection, social support, reappraisal, expression, suppression, competence development. Samples: Participants included 350 (Study 1; Germany), 359 2; England), 200 3; Germany) university students. Methods: Studies 1 2 were cross-sectional. Study 3 employed a five-wave prospective design focused on course-specific over one semester. used newly developed context- emotion-specific measure targeting enjoyment, boredom (Regulation Achievement Emotions Questionnaire, RAEQ). Results: Strategies linked health, (perceived success, end-of-semester test scores, 3) across all studies. Furthermore, related to, but distinct from, general strategies. Conclusions: Findings highlight importance both positive negative suggest that context-specific, imply reappraisal development are especially adaptive. discuss implications practice future research.
