Abstract One strategy currently being developed to increase rice ( Oryza sativa L.) productivity is using a multi‐canopy cropping system in cultivation. This method involves planting tall and short genotypes the same hill. The objective of this experiment was estimate genetic parameters response selection rice. Each arranged an augmented randomized complete block design with five replications for checks. In first season, 200 F 3 families from IPB196 IPB197 populations were planted monoculture as genotypes. IPB187‐F‐40‐1‐1 used genotype. Selection 25% based on grain weight per hill genotype performed, 50 selected their 4 seeds second season along results indicated × significant generations. Grain has similar realized h 2 ns (0.58) (0.54). Meanwhile, (3.60) higher compared (2.09), therefore lines should be conducted environment. A percentage 5% resulted selection. These findings may provide insight into acceleration breeding varieties system.
