ABSTRACT Tropical dry areas are often characterised by a lack of reptile abundance data. For example, in Burkina Faso, the population and ecological distribution gecko poorly understood. Contributing to fill this gap, study assessed diversity, density geckos metropolitan area Ouagadougou. The was conducted between 2020 2022 using direct count individuals 72 quadrats (each 25 × m 2 ) evenly distributed throughout entire area, from random start. Two distinct species, Hemidactylus angulatus Ptyodactylus sp. have been encountered. H. estimated as 0.000352 individuals/m (95% CI: ±0.000336) with estimate 987,360 ±942,480) 2020; 0.000256 ±0.000432) 718,080 ±1,211,760) 2021; 0.000368 ±0.00048) 1,032,240 ±1,346,400) 2022. 0.010016 ±0.004608) 28,094,880 ±12,925,440) 0.012352 ±0.005696) 34,647,360 ±15,977,280) 0.0144 ±0.007136) 40,392,000 ±20,016,480) spatial distributions both species were aggregative (dispersion index I = 3.81 for 24.82 sp.). Our revealed that microhabitat is resource axis typically partitioned Ouagadougou geckos. follow same pattern available partitioning African communities.

Species distribution modelling is a valuable tool for understanding and managing protected areas globally. This study used MaxEnt with high-resolution environmental data extensive in-situ observations to create habitat suitability maps 16 reptile species in the highly biodiverse Souss-Massa National Park (SMNP), Morocco. The examined influence of variables on identified ecologically significant (species-rich areas). results indicated that 94% models exhibited excellent predictive performance (AUC >0.9). Habitat types emerged as most influential variable 75% species, while remaining taxa were primarily affected by soil type, vegetation density, ocean proximity. revealed distinct preferences among species. potential richness map variations within SMNP. Fenced reserves undisturbed habitats both had greater composition diverse compared unfenced disturbed areas, respectively. substantial proportion low further supports findings from recent conducted same area, which disturbance can lead loss or decline populations. Priority conservation should shift towards less better safeguard biodiversity, needing attention are outside well-protected reserves.
