We report the sperm characteristics of a male patient who developed, when he was 18 years old, Leber hereditary optic neuropathy, neuropathy due to mtDNA mutation as well variants in nuclear DNA. At age 30 years-old, complained infertility lasting for 2 years. Semen analyses showed low motility spermatozoa and high percentage morphological or ultrastructural abnormalities. Impaired spermatogenesis and male infertility are common consequences of chemotherapy drugs used in patients with testicular cancer. The present study investigated the effects sodium alginate (NaAL) on toxicity caused by bleomycin, etoposide, cisplatin (BEP). Rats group 1 received normal saline, while groups 2 3 were treated 25 50 mg/kg NaAL, respectively. Group 4 was a 21-day cycle BEP (0.5 5 cisplatin), 6 regimen plus Then, sperm parameters, testosterone levels, histopathology stereological levels malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), expression apoptosis-associated genes including Bcl2, Bax, Caspase3, p53, TNF-α evaluated. Our findings revealed that NaAL improved histopathology, stereology parameters BEP-administrated rats. also testis status enhancing TAC ameliorating MDA NO. Further, modifications to suggested alleviated BEP-induced apoptosis inflammation. Collectively, protects rats' testes against BEP-evoked damage through modulation nitro-oxidative stress, apoptosis,

In the present study, we evaluated effect of various concentrations date palm pollen (DPP) aqueous extract on rabbit sperm during storage at 4°C for 48 h. Semen was collected from old and young bucks using an artificial vagina initially quality. The were diluted in Tris buffer supplemented with (20, 40, 80 mg/mL) DPP extract. extended samples stored Sperm motility motion kinetics assessed after 2, 4, 24 h storage. At each time, aliquot frozen analytical evaluation thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) (lipid peroxidation) tocols (vitamin E). Proximate composition, antioxidant sugar content DPP. results showed that characterised by a high proportion protein (27.10%) ash (18.43%), whereas lipid fraction very low (0.51%) total also (16.25 g/100 g fresh matter, f.m.). Regarding antioxidants content, sum value 26.48 mg/g f.m. polyphenols 5.01 mg gallic equivalents/g f.m, polyunsaturated fatty acids around 30%. Date had dose-dependent parameters (curvilinear velocity [VCL] mainly) rabbit, although null or negative recorded doses >DPP40. Conversely, optimal conditions (i.e. semen), addition no traits (motility VCL). progressive increase DPP, despite providing additional amount tocols, caused higher tocol consumption oxidation. particular, DPP80 increased TBARS level both ages. better trend found DPP20, where figures 10.46 % 15.28 %, respectively, bucks, oxidation lower compared to conclusion, findings this study demonstrated supplementation extender enhanced chilled semen only if administered concentration than 40 mg/mL.
