Diet is one of the leading factors contributing to prevalence non-communicable diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders. Dietary polyphenols, antioxidant components and anti-inflammatory agents plant-based foods rich diets have been shown modulate neuro-inflammation, adult neurogenesis brain signaling, all which are linked cognitive function. As epidemiological evidence limited results contradictory, aim this study explore association between dietary flavonoid intake health among population living in Mediterranean area. The demographic habits 808 adults southern Italy were analyzed. Food frequency questionnaires (FFQs) used assess intake. Data on polyphenol content estimated using Phenol-Explorer database. The Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire was as a screening tool for status. Multivariate logistic regression analyses associations.A significant inverse higher total flavonoids (Q4 vs. Q1: OR = 0.39, 95% CI: 0.15, 1.00) impaired status found. Among individual subclasses flavonoids, flavan-3-ols (Q3 0.30, 0.11, 0.76), catechins 0.24, 0.08, 0.72), anthocyanins 0.38, 0.14, flavonols 0.76) associated with health. only quercetin 0.10, 0.91).The suggest that may be better individuals.
