It was previously established that soil drying changes their properties and, in particular, the characteristics of a specific organic substance – humic substances (HS). HS is basis organomineral gels cover and bind particles. When water removed from soil, hydrophobization compression occur, as result which samples may change. The restoration air-dry should reduce discrepancy between data obtained when studying dried non-dried samples. purpose work to find ways restore structure gels. Samples 6 types soils were studied. Methods vibration viscometry, laser diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), photocolorimetry conductometry used work. has been found increases size supramolecular formations (SMFs) reduces viscosity pastes, parameter characterizing ability swell. To gels, it proposed SMFs initial ones. separation carried out by moistening subsequent treatment with various influences: temperature, ultrasound freezing. Using SEM, shown heating do not reduce, but increase SMFs. Humidification soils, exposure moisture for 2 weeks freezing bring pastes number studied closer condition have dried. This process occurs due return values evidenced on distribution suspended particles diffractometer. Thus, method restoring gel structures state original proposed.

Humic substances (HSs) play a crucial role in soil health and have potential applications beyond agriculture. This study evaluates the renewable raw materials such as compost from urban green waste (GWC) spent coffee grounds (SCG) sources of humic-like (HLSs), which may be an alternative to traditional resources peat, lignite, leonardite. The quantitative analysis focused on modeling optimizing efficiency ultrasound-assisted extraction acids (HLAs) function time, ultrasound intensity, extractant concentration (NaOH), temperature. Experimental points were determined based experimental matrix according fractional factorial design (FFD), obtained polynomial models evaluated using Fisher test, lack fit assessment, determination coefficients. verification with optimal values parameters demonstrated possibility extracting HLAs GWC SCG at levels 27.08 19.11%, respectively. qualitative included fulvic-like their comparison reference samples. Spectroscopic methods (UV-vis, ATR-FTIR, CP/MAS, 13C NMR) well elemental (CHNSO) used this part study. results showed presence functional groups characteristic humic (polysaccharides, phenols, alcohols, amides) molecular structure products. Additionally, they exhibited higher content nitrogen sulfur compared commercial samples, lower hydrophobicity, indicate biological activity.

Biochar, a carbonaceous material, has emerged as valuable tool for environmental remediation and soil fertility enhancement. Its activity – i.e., its ability to either change properties or affect the fate of organic inorganic pollutants depends on both physical chemical characteristics. The most recent literature evidenced that conventional analyses are insufficient fully understand biochar’s functionality in compartments. Therefore, new more sophisticated technologies needed unveil mechanisms underlying actions. In this chapter, different NMR techniques biochar evaluation presented, limitations advantages each technique discussed.

Knowledge of the effects different organic species on soil structure and strength is gained mostly from experiments natural soils amended with substances various particle sizes, pH, ionic composition, inorganic impurities. It greatly diversifies experimental results shadows individual amendments. Therefore, to look for a clearer view, we examined impact HCl-washed clay-size species: peat, humic acids, residue after acid extraction, two biochars, all derived same peat having similar particles, artificial silt aggregates using mercury intrusion porosimetry, bulk density measurements, SEM, uniaxial compression. Bulk increased due addition decreased other The total pore volumes behaved oppositely. All except surface fractal dimension, indicating smoothening surface. Humic appeared occupy spaces between grains skeleton, while were also located upon grains. latter effect was most evident 600 °C heated biochar. acid, extraction improved mechanical stability, whereas both biochars weakened aggregates, which means that plays smaller role in stability granular materials, as it usually considered. A new equation relating maximum stress amount additives proposed.

Various processes designed for the humification (HF) of animal husbandry wastes, primarily bird droppings, reduce their volumes, solve environmental problems, and make it possible to obtain products with artificially formed humic substances (HSs) as analogues natural HSs, usually extracted from fossil sources (coal peat). This review studies main characteristics various biological physicochemical methods HF wastes (composting, anaerobic digestion, pyrolysis, hydrothermal carbonation, acid or alkaline hydrolysis, subcritical water extraction). A comparative analysis rates HS yields in these processes, resulting artificial HSs (humification index, polymerization degree aromaticity, etc.) was carried out. The factors (additives, process conditions, waste pretreatment, that can increase efficiency affect properties are highlighted. Based on results chemical composition analysis, trends preferences regard use complex biomimetics discussed.
