Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs), rather than physicochemical processes, are used for wastewater remediation, electricity production, and zero carbon dioxide emission. Textile effluents contain organic inorganic compounds that can fuel BESs. The main goal of this study was to understand the interplay between anode material, its surface area, potential applied working electrode (WE), concentration co-substrate, how these factors lead formation highly efficient thermohalophilic bioanodes (THB) retrieved from Chott El Djerid (SCD) hypersaline sediment treatment synthetic textile wastewater. To end, twenty-seven bioanode experiments were designed using a Box-Behnken matrix response methodology concomitant interactions. All conducted in electrochemical reactors final volume 750 mL inoculated with 80% enrichment medium containing three azo dyes at 300 ppm 20% biocatalyst microbial SCD source, 45 °C. optimal levels predicted NemrodW software as felt (CF) 6 cm2 surface, 7 g/L glucose concentration, −0.1 V potential. These theoretical results experimentally validated, maximum current output 5.23 ± 0.30 A/m2, decolorization rate 100%, chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal 96 1%. Illumina Miseq revealed bacterial community harbored dominated phylum level by Firmicutes (67.1%). At species level, biofilm mainly colonized Orenia metallireducens (59.5%). Obtained findings show promising application THB degradation recalcitrant molecules well energy recovery.

Thiabendazole (TBZ), a recalcitrant fungicide, is frequently applied in postharvest fruit treatment and generates significant volumes of industrial wastewater (WW) that conventional plants cannot handle. This explores bioelectrochemical system (BES) for TBZ degradation using Tunisian hypersaline sediments (THSs) as inoculum. Four sets BES, along with biological controls, were tested THS subjected to different levels biostimulation. Sediments underwent one, two, or three biostimulation phases increasing concentrations (0, 10, 100, 300 mg kg-1). Potentiostatic control was polarized at 0.1 V vs. saturated calomel reference electrode (SCE), carbon felt working (72 cm2 L-1) maintained 25°C. While current production very low, biostimulated 100 kg-1 kg produced the highest density (3.2 mA m-2), 5-fold increase over untreated (0.6 m-2). GC-FID analysis showed >99% all reactors. The half-elimination time from 27 days treatments 19 BES further 6 following Bacterial revealed substantial microbial community shift after biostimulation, reduction Bacillota (-64%) an Proteobacteria (+62%), dominated by Pseudomonas (45%) Marinobacter (16%). These findings provide insight into selective potential cycles enhance composition improve performance treatment.
