Abstract Aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic yield induced sputum (IS) and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in patients with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) negative smears. We enrolled 215 who underwent both IS BAL after two spontaneous samples. PTB confirmed by culture or molecular test 26 (12.1%). detected 10 cases (38.5%) all PTB, while 22 (84.6%) PTB. had a sensitivity 38.46% specificity 100%, 84.62% 100%. higher than useful for ruling out alternative diagnoses. According our experience FBS execution is mandatory case strong TB suspicion smear patients, especially low prevalence country. Moreover, it consents testing microorganism assessing possible diagnosis similar clinical presentation. The choice best method may depend on context availability resources.
