Abstract
Aim
of
this
study
was
to
compare
the
diagnostic
yield
induced
sputum
(IS)
and
bronchoalveolar
lavage
(BAL)
in
patients
with
suspected
pulmonary
tuberculosis
(PTB)
negative
smears.
We
enrolled
215
who
underwent
both
IS
BAL
after
two
spontaneous
samples.
PTB
confirmed
by
culture
or
molecular
test
26
(12.1%).
detected
10
cases
(38.5%)
all
PTB,
while
22
(84.6%)
PTB.
had
a
sensitivity
38.46%
specificity
100%,
84.62%
100%.
higher
than
useful
for
ruling
out
alternative
diagnoses.
According
our
experience
FBS
execution
is
mandatory
case
strong
TB
suspicion
smear
patients,
especially
low
prevalence
country.
Moreover,
it
consents
testing
microorganism
assessing
possible
diagnosis
similar
clinical
presentation.
The
choice
best
method
may
depend
on
context
availability
resources.
