Objective Attention forms the foundation for formation of situation awareness. Low awareness can lead to driving performance decline, which be dangerous in driving. The goal this study is investigate how different types pre-takeover tasks, involving cognitive, visual and physical resources engagement, as well individual attentional function, affect driver's attention restoration conditionally automated

Fog is a weather condition that can significantly threaten expressway safety and efficiency by reducing natural visibility the road friction coefficient. The variable speed limit (VSL) strategy an effective traffic-management method for harmonising vehicle rear-end crash potential under foggy conditions. Two key inputs – driver sight distance coefficient determine reliability of VSL calculation. However, driver's in running (i.e. dynamic (DSD)) lower than at rest. Additionally, dust–water coupled film on surface will also affect (DFC). Based stopping model, new considers DSD, DFC, alignment slope proposed. results obtained from simulations based CarSim software program Simulink programming environment showed that, conditions with 200 m, speeds calculated proposed straight curved segments were 70 km/h 67 km/h, respectively, 16% 11% higher China's legal limit. A braking experiment Wentai Zhejiang province, China confirmed these are safe could improve efficiency. research provide theoretical basis support management expressways
