As a potential consequence of climate change, the intensity and frequency dust storms are increasing. A storm arises when strong winds blow loose from dry surface, transporting soil particles one place to another. The environmental human health impacts substantial. Accordingly, studying monitoring this phenomenon predicting its pathways for early decision making warning vital. This study employs deep learning methods predict pathways. Specifically, hybrid CNN-LSTM ConvLSTM models have been proposed 24 h-ahead prediction in region under study. Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis Research Applications version 2 (MERRA-2) product that includes meteorological information, such as surface wind speed direction, relative humidity, air temperature, skin is used train models. These contextual features selected utilizing random forest feature importance method. results indicate an improvement performance both by considering information. Moreover, 0.2 increase Kappa coefficient criterion across all forecast hours indicates model outperforms information considered.

Abstract Purpose This study aims to provide the first analysis of aerosol optical properties, radiative forcing, and source identification over Birkat al Mouz, Oman, using Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) data from December 2022 November 2024. Methods We analyzed Optical Depth (AOD), Angstrom Exponent (AE), Single Scattering Albedo (SSA), forcing (RF), performed Concentration-Weighted Trajectory (CWT) identify transport pathways sources. Results The highest loading (AOD = 0.49 ± 0.15) occurred in summer, with lowest (0.17 0.08) winter. AE values (maximum 0.94 0.20 winter, minimum 0.42 0.17 summer) indicated coarse-mode dominance. Seasonal SSA were summer (0.95), confirming significant dust influence. Surface RF averaged − 43.81 W m −2 , atmospheric was 27.04 aerosol-induced heating reached 0.74 K day −1 . CWT revealed Horn Africa, arid regions Arabian Peninsula as major Conclusion variations Mouz are predominantly driven by aerosols transported remote regions, highlighting their role regional climate forcing. Every year, large quantities of dust are transported from North Africa to the Americas, Europe, and West Asia. The purpose this study is analyze four intense pervasive storms that entered Middle East Northern Africa. Satellite products, ground-based remote sensing measurements, reanalysis data, outputs Aire Limitée Adaptation dynamique Développement InterNational-Dust (ALADIN-Dust) ICOsahedral Nonhydrostatic weather climate model with Aerosols Reactive Trace gases (ICON-ART) forecasting models were synergized. originated different source regions located in north, northeastern, central parts Sahara Desert. transport height main plumes was about 3–5 km, triggered by westerly zonal winds. presence a closed low over Eastern Mediterranean penetration deep trough into at 500 hPa synoptic circulation patterns favoring long-range during events. A comparison aerosol optical depth (AOD) two satellite data revealed although both forecasted East, they considerably underestimated AOD values, especially near sources. ICON-ART performed slightly better than ALADIN these storms, for longer leading time, performance decreased, superiority became more apparent.

The Mediterranean area is considered a hot spot on our planet because it represents the crossroads of various aerosols. Several studies have shown that weather in region affected by North-Atlantic Oscillation, which, turn, well connected with El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon. Nevertheless, no study has investigated ENSO effect solar radiation and atmospheric aerosols this region. present considers greater around Sea over period 1980–2022. results show there exists loose but significant dependence, some cases, optical properties (aerosol depth, Ångström exponent, cloud depth) (net short-wave net long-wave radiation, direct aerosol radiative forcing) events. provide motivation for further investigations, since such can increase accuracy general circulation models deal climate change.
