Radiation therapy, including image-guided adaptive brachytherapy based on magnetic resonance imaging, is the standard of care in locally advanced cervical and vaginal cancer part treatment other primary recurrent gynaecological tumours. Tumour control probability increases with dose optimal technique to increase target volume while maintaining constraints organs at risk. The use interstitial needles now one quality indicators for should optimally be used ≥60% patients. Commercially available applicators sometimes cannot because anatomical barriers or do not allow adequate coverage due tumour size topography. Over last five ten years, 3D printing has been increasingly manufacturing customised brachytherapy, tumours being most common indication. We present rationale, techniques current clinical evidence 3D-printed brachytherapy.

Technologies and biomaterials for 3D bioprinting have been developing extremely quickly in the past decade as they hold great potential tissue engineering. This, together with possibility to differentiate stem cells of different origin into any cell type, raises hopes regenerative medicine once again after initial breakthrough 1980s. Nevertheless, three decades experiments shown that production functional tissues would take a longer time than anticipated. Cartilage, one simplest body, consists only type. It is not vascularised innervated does lymphatic vessels either, which makes it perfect target successful implantation. The tremendous amount work since beginning this century, combining efforts bioengineers, material scientists, biologists, physicians, has culminated multiple proof-of-concept constructs implanted animals. However, there no single reproducible, standardised, widely accessible accepted strategy can be readily applied clinic. In review, we focus on current progress field biofabrication articular cartilage critically assess failures future challenges.
