Reynoutria japonica Houtt. is the source of various phenolic compounds: acids, flawan-3-ols, and stilbenes, with a broad range biological activity. The rhizome (underground organ these plants) abundant in secondary metabolites but, natural conditions, may accumulate toxic substances (such as heavy metals) from soil. principal objective this research was to produce transformed cultures R. hairy roots that would serve valuable compounds, independent environmental resources. transformation performed using variety wild strains Rhizobium rhizogenes bacteria, which only strain A4 (ATCC 31798) proved effective. molecular characterization clones PCR. biometric parameters (growth index dry weight content), compounds accumulation (DAD-HPLC), antioxidant capacity (DPPH, CUPRAC), bactericidal properties against Staphylococcus aureus sensitivity antibiotics were evaluated. Two obtained (RJ 9 30) exhibited incorporation entire bacterial T-DNA into genomic DNA, while RJ 10 11 demonstrated presence LT-DNA sequence. results an increase flawan-3-ols (catechins) root tissue relative non-transformed (NT) plants. Moreover, enhanced activity compared NT shoots, respectively.
